I know of some race teams I have supplied that run strapless "surface discharge" and other non standard design NGK plugs that have told me they dyno'd 5 to 10 horsepower up compared with standard plugs. I'm talking 200hp four cylinder bikes here, so 2-5% gains.

i know on our mud trucks that run nitrous side gapping prevents "blow out". ive seen dyno charts with improvement on big h.p builds., never thought about it on a scooter though. hmmmmm
