First of all, let me say I'm a novice scooter rider in Rhode Island. I Purchased a 2009 Sym jet euro which only had 800 miles(physically in mint condition) but had been in storage unrunned for 18 months. Had to have the carborator inspected and cleaned. Afterwards, the Sym ran great but soon after I noticed the rpms would drop down at stop signs/traffic lights and Needed to be throttled up while waiting for light changes. This condition seemed to get worse with time until it would not hold idle at all and would sluggishly come to a complete halt.
I can restart engine easily (either by starter or manual crank) without any throttle assistance. However, with a cold start, the rpms seem to increase higher for several minutes and then they start dropping down again until it comes to a sluggish stop. If I immediately try to restart the engine it will fire up at a lower idle and shortly thereafter come to a halt. What advise can you give on for the above situation. Have had difficulty finding mechanics specializing in scooter repairs in my area and want to explore what may be wrong before going to scooter dealers without knowing what most likely is causing this problem. Hopefully it's something I can handle on my own before going to dealers uninformed. Many thanks in advance for whatever assistance there may be in the forum.

welcome to the forum! If the fuel tank was not cleaned at the same time as the carburetor was, then there could have been sediment in it and has now found it's way to the carb and has likely plugged the pilot jet. Even if it was cleaned, there might still have been some sediment left over. I would pull the carb, clean and inspect it thoroughly, replace the the fuel filter AND the fuel lines. And of course clean the fuel tank.

The symptoms your describing could be several things. The revving high at start and stalling after several minutes after warmed up sounds like a air leak or idle set too low after auto enrich circuit closes(choke) I am also concerned if the oil injection system is working correctly.(seeing carb was removed and cleaned) Oil injection line reconnected to carb if connected. Where are you in RI ?(general vicinity) I'm your neighbor to the west in CT. LOL

Further to my previous description of running issues on my 2009 SYM Jet euro x 50cc, I can avoid the engine from coming to a sluggish end by constantly throttling up and down; however it will futter-out if I leave the throttle rpms at a constant higher rpm. But again, if It starts to futter, and I can throttle up and down, it will run until I stop throttling up and.
Don't know if this is useful or not in looking at potential engine running problems. Thanks in advance for your thoughts as well as your tome.

Bruno, make a list of the easy to do and work your way to the hardest, after each action test the scoot and note down any changes. The jobs need doing anyway so sooner you start ect.
clean the air box and filter make sure it,s complete and secure. check the throttle cable is adjusted properly. check the throttle assy is clamped to the handlebars.. remove the carb cap and check the needle is secure. check that the throttle slide moves freely.all that lot is covered in the how to videos, bonus is it,s free and can be learned easy.It only takes a tiny flake of dirt or rust to affect the running of these engine.s so clean the engine before you take anything off.Just ask here if your stuck,we all have to learn. geoff
