Ordered an andytach rpm/cht guage. Should have it tomorrow. Ive been rippin around without a taxh for far too long now although my 6g sliders seem to work really well for me and it doesnt seem to be screaming too high rpms at 38-40mph. Been pullin plug to keep up with jetting so far. Real question for me is what temps are safe for a qmb. And what temps should tell me if i should rich or lean it up? Currently have 88 main with 35 pilot and needle clip 1 space from top.

Got my andytach installed last night with a few small rides to see what im reading on it. Fairly easy to install and hide wiring. A little confused with settings. When i set it at 4t1cylinder the tach seemed to read way high at idle at about 5500rpms. Im no "tech" but ive grown up in a gearhead family and work at a dealership detailing but i know it not idling at 5500 lol. Messed with settings a bit more and found that when on 4t2cylinder idle read 2200 rpms wich seemed more what she sounds like. While riding i saw a quick spike of 10gs at one point wich seemed high from how it sounds but mostly ran in 8-8500 range. Temp seemed to run at about 180-185f. This was with about 3 diff ridea of about 20 mins with some town riding and few stretches of wot

A 4t only needs to fire once every other stroke. But, with the firing sensor getting its' 'trigger' from the flywheel on the crank, it fires every stroke. This 'wasted' spark occurs near the end of the exhaust stroke and hurts nothing. Maybe it even burns some leftover fuel? Anyway, it's probably cheaper to build an engine like this and that's fine; so that is why your tach reads double on the 4t setting.

I get the wasted spark thing just the setting on the instructions for a 4t single cylinder wasnt what i should be on i guess lol. Will play with it more over the weekend. Is the 180ish cht about where i should be?

temp actually seems a bit low. perhaps you are running a bit rich. usually temps will go over 200 up to 250 before they level off.

With a ring under the plug, my TrailTech says my TaoTao maxes out anywhere between high 200s and 400F. Depends on the weather. I'm pretty much always WOT.

Had a good ride in today and saw a temp max of around 250 after a good wot stretch then it slowly went down but really id say most of my right it bounced in the 210-230is range. Bike runs damn good other than just a subtle hiccup when slowed down fron wot and then getting back on throttle it has a small hiccup. Rpms im actually not sure what setting i should be on. The "4t1cylinder" setting is wayyyyyyyy off. Says im at 19g's at wot hahaha. Other settings seem ok at idle but seem way off while riding around. Will have to take notes what its doin at idle and wot through the week. I get alot of error flashes too while reading rpms too but wire seemed secure on coil wrapped

set your tack to 2t setting. these engines run with a wasted spark, so its reading double what you're actually running.
as far as the temp, between 200 and 400 is normal. anything over 400 aluminum really starts to loose its integrity

RPM, revelations per minute.
A four stroke takes 4 strokes(up/down)to complete a full combustion cycle, or 2 full revolutions of the crankshaft.
A 2 stroke takes 2 strokes(up/down) to complete a full combustion cycle. or 1 full revolution of the crankshaft.
Either engines(2 or 4)fires once per revolution. So you set the tach for 1P1R
A full revolution of the crankshaft is revolution no matter what cycle(2 or 4) the engine is.
