I see a lot of posts about electric starters not working and only getting a clicking noise. My scooter does not turn over or make the click. Safe to assume it's a busted starter relay? (Kymco Super 8 2T)
Is there a way to test the starter button/CDI/starter relay? I assume the issue has to be with one or more of these components?

If you jump the two big terminals on the relay does the motor spin?

It is a Kymco Super 8. It doesn't have the 2 big terminals on the solenoid it has a little silver box with 4 tab/connectors that plug in

Ah I see. It's should be the same theory, 2 pins go to the switch, the other two go to the starter. If you short the two that go to the motor while it's all plugged in it should spin the motor. Just trying to find out if the motor is bad first, then you can focus on the relay. Alternately just unhook the relay and short the motor to the battery. ( Probably safer )

Essentially just positive terminal of battery to positive terminal of starter motor right? Starter is grounded by itself?

Thats right,,a good first test, then on to the harder stuff if that is OK,dont forget about the brake lever switches as they'll need to be good for the starter relay to function..

Essentially just positive terminal of battery to positive terminal of starter motor right? Starter is grounded by itself? Correct. If the motor is good you can move on to the relay. The pins that go to the switch are basically 12v and ground, if you apply that you should hear a click and the motor should spin. If you have the plug out, you'll just hear a click, in this case you'll need to have a volt meter to check for continuity on the motor side pins.

Sorry for taking so long! We had some terrible weather and I couldn't get out to work on it. So the starter motor seems to be fine. I did what you said and it started turning over the scoot. Now I'm fairly certain I have to get a new ignition coil and spark plug.
Where can I buy Kymco products? I need a starter relay, ignition coil, and air filter for now. Hopefully I won't need to replace the CDI as well. I haven't really found any Kymco parts online for retail and the shop sounded orettt pricey

Also check your battery. How many volts is it reading before you try starting it. May just need a charge.

Battery is at 13.0 V so it's all good
