CDI, stands for Capacitor Discharge Ignition. The capacitor is discharged through the primary coil winding to produce the ignition spark from the secondary winding. You can find generic schematics on the web for both AC and DC powered units and their application. The trigger pulse from the flywheel is used in various ways to trigger the output pulse providing differing amounts of advance. There are various circuits in common use to produce a CDI system. The AC and DC CDI units are similar except for the circuits used to charge the output capacitor. DC CDI units are larger due to the size of the charging circuits. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_discharge_ignition

I'm going to check to see if those wires on the coil are reversed in this harness, the CDI may be AC charged but the capacitor output is still a DC pulse, so if the polarity is backwards on the coil it will cause a weak spark, capacitors can't discharge AC only DC , but they can charge with AC

No voltage at cdi figured it was AC, haven't tried the new stock one yet

Im going to check it again I keep hearing bits about yiben having DC boxes, and now I've seen late model DC boxes on line that look identical to AC boxes same size, everything, what kind of oddball bike do I have. Also I can no longer shut it off with the key only the kill switch it has an alarm I wonder if its malfunctioning

I have worked on many vehicles that have modified electrical systems. One of the things I do is strip them all down and then connect things back up in the simplest form and see if it runs. Then add those additional circuits back in until the failure is found.

This is all stock except for my lights, the alarm is connected by one plug directly into the harness, it only had 100 miles on it when I got it the bike looked unmolested it came from my dad, who bought it from an elderly woman, who is the original owner

'Elderly' woman, -probably my age... LOL
The alarm system might be a place to look.
Many people look for electrical gremlins first because electricity is invisible and mysterious. The electrics on my scoot are fairly bullet proof. The AF, carb, and fuel system is good also. It is the mechanical CVT that kept failing for me due to my 250# with gear, heavy 300# scoot, increased drag from three wheels, and the terrain. I hope a 125cc engine (130cc is legal in Kansas) and heavier CVT will do the trick with low gears so I have torque at the rear wheel without the added speed.

ok another one that won't work, I can't figure this out, this is supposed to be a stock replacement, the box in the scooter looks like an AC box, I can't measure any dc voltage with the key on, I found a CDI for a yiben scout, which is very close to what I have but it looks like a DC box, it's on UK ebay, these bikes are very popular there. Do you suppose they wired a DC box so it gets rectified power only when the engine is running? that would actually make sense because if your battery was dead, you couldn't kick start a regular DC box running off the battery, the mystery continues, this is a weird bike, I can't upload an image as it says images unable to be loaded

check this out, 5 wire DC cdi, gets it's dc power from the stator, I suspect this may be what I actually have, these bikes have an 8 pole stator like a 150, since Yiben makes 150 and 250, maybe they just u se the same setup for all. ibb.co/kV6t6k

Yiben scout stator, the scout is the closest thing to my scooter, it may be a scout as far as I can tell ibb.co/c7yvK5CDI I found on the UK ebay, of what's SUPPOSED to be in there, but looks smaller like an AC cdi ibb.co/j1wPe5

OK I have 100 volts AC at the input of the CDI maybe it's just frying these aftermarket boxes

I have seen stock bikes that eat performance cdi's in about a minute, they are fragile compared to stock. Some bikes seem to put out a ridiculous amount of ac from the stator like 100 volts. Check you ac voltage going into your cdi from the black and red wire by disconnecting the 2 pin on cdi and cranking the bike over. Then check ac voltage at the back of the coil black and yellow wire. it's one of those crazy high voltage ones 100 vac at the input to the box

100VAC at the box is OK.
That wiring diagram is not for a standard CDI. It looks very proprietary to me.

The 3 Yellow wires off the stator going to the voltage regulator makes it a "full wave" charging system.
