I just took of my dealer provided trunk this afternoon. It is kind of a flimsy thing and I didn't really like how it mounted. Many people have reported the things breaking and falling off while on the road. So if that does happen you wouldn't anything important in there. So since it isn't all that good looking & I was leary of actually using it, off it came. Greg Im trying to figure out how they could fall off if bolted on? of course you should use locktite or self locking nuts, but it's just a fiberglass box. bolted to a metal rack. are the straps that go under the rack missing? I don't have experience with these trunks but I've seen fiberglass crack from vibration, especially if it wasn't cured properly. I've also seen a couple scooter trunks on the side of the road in Seattle haha.

It's likely many of them are also overloaded, they are supposed to be for lightweight stuff, the heavier stuff goes under the seat, or in saddle bags, closer to the ground.

mine is 2 part. a base that is bolted to the rack, then the actual box snaps into place and can be removed with the press of a button so you can take it with you if you want. I never do.

The trunks that come on most Chinese scoots are junk cheap brittle plastic. The storage space is worthless. Be lucky if it holds a helmet. And that is how I personally gauge the worthiness of a top box. If it can't AT LEAST hold the helmet I use, then I don't want it on the scoot. I say this because it is more practical to secure your helmet in a locked topbox rather then leave it sit out. Many people have difficulty fitting a helmet under seat storage anyway. So one that size or larger just makes sense. The one I use on my kid's scoot can fit 2 full helmets, the one's on my Spree's can each fit 1. The stock "free" topboxes that came with the Chinese junk are sitting on a shelf in the garage with junk in them. Bout all they're good for.

Lost,
The two that I remember the details of, one fell of because the bolts broke thru the bottom of the case & the other one the whole rack the box was mounted to broke the welds and fell away. Maybe kind of far fetched occurrences, but it got my attention. And I'm not than keen on how it looks anyway.
Greg
Remember this is with the included trunk box. Ymmv.
Wouldn't you think the trunk would start rattling like mad if it was getting loose?
Who knows?

The one that came with my 150 was a little better than the clam shell boxes you get from fast food joints. I tightened everything on it but forgot the lock and it fell off at about 100 miles.

I am also going to take mine off and install a duffel bag with bungees.
Is there a link to instructions on how to augment to extend the current rack longer?
The main issue I have with that trunk box is that thieves break into them around here and leave them smashed and destroyed. Better to have a removable duffel bag that I can bring with me
They also look really goofy. I am wearing a big tactical military backpack and will put yellow reflective tape on the back to make me more visible

I use to only carry my frogg toggs rain gear in the trunk. A good fold and they may be an inch thick, so i just keep them under my seat. Along with registration in ziplock, 2 pair of glasses - clear and shades, a long sleeve shirt, and the original tool bag. 90% of everything i need is within 1/2 mile from home. I use a large backpack for when i need to go buy things. I'm 6'4" so i sit ALL the way back. Didn't like sitting forward with the backpack on. Grips hitting the knees wasn't a good thing. Went from this: To this: Just looks cleaner.

If I put anything at all it would be a milk crate since this way the wind can blow right thru the holes of the milk crate

It is obviously a personal thang'... For me, good function, but it ends there. I am biased toward handling and emergency braking/movements. I do think a tail trunk is super ugly. I further think that the use of dry bags or other saddle bags that lower the CG is smarter and more functional. On our big bikes and scooters, we employ the same strap-ons. No-name, saddle bags and tail bag...all soft luggage. The tail bag acts as a back rest for my love. She is small, so easier to assist. Nothing extends up past her lower back. For long trips, I firmly suggest changing your life style...minimal is easy. My example: First wife = 4 bags of luggage for a weekend. Others were just as stupid.
For me and now? Hot/humid climates, one pair of shorts and one shirt...a few pairs of underwear. We did an Egypt holiday last year...two small backpacks, and we had more than needed. Launder when needed.
For me? A tail bag and a saddle bag setup of cordura or ?? Here in Thailand, I can carry a laptop, phone and clothes for 5 days with only a backpack...or only a tiny saddle bag

I like my trunk. Anything that helps me be seen is a plus. I use my trunk for light bulky things. I don't like the look of bags. Ive had no rattling on this or my previous trunk.Side note; jwinn that scoot is awesome looking.

Thanks jstich "I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel". Really wanted something a lil different than all the other scoots we have around here. The lights are what caught my attention. Low beam High beam Tail/Brake light A few of the small LED bulbs on the front went out. Waiting for the shop to get in the new clusters. Thankfully under warranty.
