Scoot came with a rear luggage rack type trunk but it wasnt installed. Been thinking of putting it on since under my seat is full with oil and small tools. What are the pros and cons of having it on that anyone can suggest from experience??

some don't like the way they look. that is the only con I can think of. I didn't notice any difference in performance at all. I would hate not having it.
ok, I can think of one con. if you wear a backpack it can get in the way sometimes. you just have to sit all the way to the front of the seat if you have a fully loaded backpack. no big deal really

the rack on mine sloped downward towards the back, so the truck partially blocked the tailight hanging over, but I put spacers under the trunk to level it up. I couldn't imagine not having one. you really shouldn't wear a backpack riding, if you get in a wreck it can really mess up your back

I ordered a stainless steel flask to put oil in, how much do you really need to carry? a complete drain and refill isn't even a quart , it will take up a lot less room then a full quart bottle

in my top case I just keep a pack of zipties, a sweatshirt or jacket, a couple bungie straps and a pair of safety glasses that I wear at work everyday. I can fit a gallon of milk a 6 pack and a variety of other small items in there if I take the jacket out.

Just recently I tried out the trunk that came with my bike.
The 'pro' of the matter was the fact that I then had a good deal of luggage space. And it was real convenient to just open that thing up and toss in whatever small items I'd picked up at the store or needed to carry from home.
The 'cons' were:
It took a really good looking bike and made it just a bit clumsy. (Normally I'll sacrifice looks for functionality. Just ask my wife and kids. They'll tell you stories that'll make you laugh. But there's just something about a scooter that looks 'perfect' that's pretty darned desirable. And 'almost perfect' is just a bit pale.)
The case was pretty cheap and flimsy.
Particularly when I go to work I carry a fair amount of stuff. And it's stuff I want with me, not with the bike. So I didn't carry this stuff in the hard case. This meant that I always had to wear my backpack. And I had to take the backpack off going into a store or someplace like that. I had to do it if I wanted to avoid knocking stuff off the shelves anyway.
In a nutshell, the hard case forced me to deal with my backpack way too much.
That was the last straw. I took my hard case off and put back on a sort-of luggage rack I'd made that 'augmented' the factory rack. And I set a duffel bag on there and I lash that down. It's much more convenient.
Oh...by the way....that hard case wasn't fully weather-proof either. I would have figured out some way to seal it up in the end. But I never got around to that and it doesn't matter now.

not all top cases are created equal that's for sure, and for a quality one expect to spend some money. mine was almost 200 bucks.
imho it is the best thing I have added to my scooter other than a bbk

The biggest con is that they rattle unless you spend some dollars and even those need some foam or tubing to sit tight.

I've put 6000 miles on mine and really like it. It is a Great place to add a LED brake light. Left the lid red, painted the body bright yellow. Provides a secure backstop for a strapped on grocery bag between me and the trunk.

The biggest con is that they rattle unless you spend some dollars and even those need some foam or tubing to sit tight. put some split rubber channel around the lip to stop the rattle, and help seal it, and use some gorilla tape to seal the extra mounting holes. my rack already had four holes to mount the box, and I have no issues with it being loose

I just took of my dealer provided trunk this afternoon. It is kind of a flimsy thing and I didn't really like how it mounted. Many people have reported the things breaking and falling off while on the road. So if that does happen you wouldn't anything important in there. So since it isn't all that good looking & I was leary of actually using it, off it came. Greg

Greg Im trying to figure out how they could fall off if bolted on? of course you should use locktite or self locking nuts, but it's just a fiberglass box. bolted to a metal rack. are the straps that go under the rack missing?
