Hey guys, not sure this belongs here, since it's not 49cc and not 2stroke, but I got this crazy idea - have anyone thought about modding a small old 2stroker (zuma or similar) with a Yamaha T-MAX engine? It would be mental!

I just bought a chineese VOG 250 scooter, that I plan to eventually swap into my Honda ruckus. its probably going to sit and collect dust for some time before that happens.
the tmax engine into a 50cc frame is going to take some serious modification, but if you can dream it you can do it

Something that small would be better off with a 150-175cc engine. Hell a BWs 125 engine would be fun as hell in an older Jog or a Razz😈

$370 is normal for such an engine. Here they cost the same or even more. Shipping with $240 is pricey though.

My early thought for a future project would be another Honda Gyro, like my Gyro Up, but with a Honda CR80R...breaking tradition and going shifter and replacing the front wheel with steering link setup from a 90cc ATV. Since the Gyro's are "articulated", meaning the front end can lean, I could make it climb the steep Thailand trails!

The TMAX engine would be real tough. It takes a big scoot to fit all of the stuff it needs. It's not a typical scooter engine where the gearbox and wheel mount right to it. The TMAX uses a swingarm and the engine sits in the frame. At that point, you might as well try to cram a sport bike engine into one and have 100+HP for all of the work you're getting into. Either that or a 2T dirtbike engine would be badass if you're getting into making a swingarm and all.
It would be way easier to swap in a 1 piece unit with CVT, gearbox, and wheel. Something like a 400cc Burgman engine. Some of these need computer control. Easiest big swaps would probably be 250cc carbureted engines.
If you just want something quick/fast and reliability is not a concern, racing 2Ts fit the bill. Based on what I've seen in spaz12's vids, I've told him he'd prob give a TMAX a good run 0-60MPH. Some of the high end stuff would beat it other than top speed.

Some of the high end stuff would beat it other than top speed. I agree with this wholly...if you can use your imagination and do a good bit of fun research, you can find many things that might work. That is sort of what we are doing here, though usually on a very low budget and therefore, low level. The reason that we are doing Honda Gyro research, for example, is that we have gotten to know their engineering well. We have found cylinder sets that span near 16 years. Some on horizontal engines, some on verticals. When we find the right one, we will get into production mode and sell packages. Both water and air cooled. I strongly suggest that you find a package that can really work well in your frame. I am sure something exists. Shit, my younger bro had a 215 cu.in. aluminum block Buick engine mounted in a hybrid Harley/Indian frame. He hit well over 115 mph in that 11.5 foot long beast. Scary, but it actually worked well. Except in the sand on Florida beaches.
