A few days ago I went to start up one of our backup scooters. Just to ride it a bit and shake the dust off of it. It did not start. But since it really doesn't get much use I figured the carburetor was dry. So I cranked it a bit more to get some fuel worked in there. Still no start. I didn't push real hard. It wasn't important right then. I decided to come back when I could and do some trouble-shooting.
So I went out there just a bit ago. Still cranked but wouldn't start. So I sprayed some starting fluid into the air intake and got no better result. So I pulled the spark plug and cranked. Definitely no spark whatsoever.
A spark plug can fail, of course. But this one didn't look like it was dead yet. Failed ignition coil? Maybe. But I decided to have a look at a trouble-shooting guide to lead me. I came here of course. To the 'directory' in the technical help section.
Let's get another link up to that directory while we're on the subject. It's a resource that can use plenty of exposure in order to help us remember it.

I went to the section titled, "cranks, but won't start". And Brent started with a couple of very, very basic things, warning us that we'd be surprised how many times these things cause trouble.
The first one was, "Is there gasoline in the tank". I had already checked that and the answer was yes.
Then, "How about that kill switch?"
"The kill switch???...............could it be?"
So I went back out. Of course the kill switch was in the no-run position. And of course the bike started right up once I'd fixed that.
So, once again, my thanks to our host, 90GTVert. His videos and technical threads are top notch and help keep us newbies up, riding and confident.
He's a friend to us all.

I had an interesting experience with the kill switch on the Velo. These were imported from Italy and obviously they didn't have a kill switch there. So the importer added one:
I went to use it to get a plug chop and discovered its not functioning. Fortunately I was able to stop before I ran into anything.
I do appreciate Brent's work on this site and how he runs it.
