I just recieved an Intake Manifold from Malossi and its got me a bit confused . I ordered the model that allows 360 degree rotation to allow me to choose exactly where the Carb is positioned . There is an old saying about a round peg in a square hole and that is what I've got . The rubber part is round and the hole in the alloy base is sort of square . Am I supposed to force the two parts together or have I been sent the wrong combination ? Hopefully this pic will show what I mean . Ken

lol
I was asking myself the same question when I was looking at those 360 intakes. Malossi, Polini and Top Performances has those. My guess is once you know what direction the intake should face you'll have to "force" the round rubber into the square.
Looking at your posted picture, flip the metal base by 180 degree and put it over the rubber thing as it is now. Hope that makes sense.
Another thing I was curious to know, and we hopefully will find out thanks to you, is does those 2 parts once combined really seal well or does it need some MotoSeal help?

It just takes a little elbow grease to get them together, a hair dryer helps too.

WOW! That is the design? I cannot help but say...what a f---ed up piece of engineering! The system mayseal ok, assuming you get the install orientation correct. Does heat/time mess with the rubber a bunch?
I can say...I would prefer to buy aluminum materials and TIG weld my intakes. What is wrong with a round intake hole? Still hard to put together, but Whaaat? Just creating turbulence?

I do to. I really want one of those fancy stage6 or mxs all Aluminum rear facing intakes. They look so cool and you can show off your carb haha.

Yup, that's why I haven't done it yet. I love my seat bucket I don't wanna put a giant hole in it.

raizer, do you use that stuffer on your Gyro? No unfortunately, my Gyro has just a stock TA01 Canopy engine atm, found that pic online lol Once it's on the road I'm planning on building up another engine with decent intake etc though.

They actually do seal pretty good if using ultragrey type sealant. Don’t try just using gaskets. They are good for using larger carbs and setting up an airbox with them. You can set at any position you need.

Actually, I like the idea of being able to index the connection to carb angle. My earlier statement may just be a bit ignorance. The rectangular hole is likely for ease of fitment. I found a discussion elsewhere, that showed one similar, but said the manifold piece was harder compound than normal rubber.
They fit and index it, then machine the hole to round. The site I was on was 2T tuning for snowmobiles. They use them on older carb and newer FI systems.
