Well, its time to ditch the ghetto variator on my jog. Whats a good variator? Ive seen the new Yasuni but there isnt much info to know if its worth getting. I have what i believe is an Athena variator that had no guides so i had to ghettofy the stock ones to work on that variator.

Yea but it's a stock motor. Wont have enough power to push an OR.

what tsimi said...much data from manufacturers about what works and not...marketing ploys far outweigh reality. The proof is ALWAYS in actual results from real people. The idea of needing more parts to employ an over-range variator is a matter of ...well matter, or mass...or mass versus torque.
In other words, you can have larger weights by dimensions, but still carry the same inertia. Or less, by grams...or more by grams. The differences can be felt, as the rotating mass is initially slower to start, but can have a quicker response. IT does make more sense for a higher HP engine, to me...but tuning is fun. Could be the right thing for your needs.

The over range kits are typically used with tuned bikes with upgraded gears, and I'm told it works great on most setups. I'm sure it would work fine on a stock bike, but it is a spendy kit and you gotta do some mods to make it work. I had a multivar kit with a polini belt on my Honda aero50 (stock bore) and it really worked well, got me to about 45mph and better hillclimbing ability. It did help me beat my brothers stock bore 05 Zuma w ncy clutch, and Im about 40lbs heavier than my brother, but it didint gain extreme amounts of acceleration or speed considering the $150+ it cost me to upgrade it. At $250, it's hard for me to suggest anything but the OR since it'll work best if you ever upgrade the gear ratio and bore. I hear the hoca ssp variator is a good/cheap copy of the multivar.

Well i come from the ruckus scene and had mine tuned pretty well to hit 55mph. My jog can do 52 fully tucked or drafting. I just want a proper variator as opposed to the mess i have now. I have an OR for my ruckus but i dont plan on using it on the jog as its for the ruckus. Thanks for all the info though guys! I might just get the malossi multivar. My rucks cvt is full malossi (OR, wing bell, delta clutch) but it'll be a while before that thing ever runs.

I get this site caters to the yamas, chinese, and other such clones, but it'd be awesome to have a ruck build in the builds section. Maybe get some more rucksters talkin here

I have the Multivar on the Derbi and it is a solid variator. Scooterpartsco.com has some good pricing.

KELI makes a pretty decent variator. I use it myself. gives better performance than stock, NCY, or MotoForce variator. comes with ramp, guides, and a set of weights.
