My Kymco 250 will run 60-65 all day long and still have about 10mph left on the throttle, most I ever got out of a 139QMB with a 100cc BBK, cam and head was 51 and it was screaming for mercy when it hit it. None of the 150s I looked at would do more than 45-50 tops.

I still don't really know what to do at this point. A lot of it depends on what my friend ends up buying for a scooter. The riding season is done here so I have until the end of April to decide which way I'm going to go. Right now I'm leaning towards selling mine for whatever I can get for it and buying a two stroke.

I might be a little late to this party, but I voted larger scooter. A Zuma 125 with mods should do pretty good on 45-55 mph roads.

Look for a bike with a "1e40qmb" motor, real easy to find parts for. Alot of Chinese scooters had this motor. You can find em on Craigslist pretty often for $100-300 and usually just need maintenance and carb cleaning. Tng, vento, and keeway are 3 scooter brands known to use these motors. Also most 2 stroke Yamahas like Vino's zumas and jogs have a version of this motor but Yamaha bikes are usually more expensive

I'm still cruising Craigslist daily looking for something inexpensive that grabs my attention, but so far I haven't found anything that's gotten me excited. There is a 2001 Zuma that's $550, but it's far away, has no pictures, and has quite a few miles on it, there's the Rattler I mentioned before, but again, no pics, it's far away, and quite obvious that a kid owns it, and a 99 Kymco 2 stroke for $425, but it's almost 5 hours away. There are cheaper machines out there (all 4 stroke so far) but they never have titles. It seems like almost half of the machines for sale don't have titles which is a problem in my state. I could start a small junkyard if I went around snatching up all of the "no title for parts only" machines I see.

Actually it's a 2000, is "hard starting but runs ok" and has 8500 miles on it. I'm sure it's teenager owned because it's in a college town with an out of town area code. I might shoot them a message and see what they have to say.

I checked on the Zuma and it's sold. That is one of the more popular models around here so I should have more chances at one. I see lots of mid to late 2000 models selling for $800-900 so with a little haggling and patience I could probably score one for a decent price.

If you want a 2t 49cc bike, a Zuma is a damn good one. Any year as long as it's not 4 stroke haha.

Although if the motor mount on the 4t Zuma is anything like the 4t vino, a Mina motor bolts right up!

Right now there's a few scooters in my "area" that are fairly interesting and I'm looking for some input on if I should pursue any of these.
I just ordered a 47mm kit for my 139qmb Propel, but it hasn't shipped yet and I can cancel the order.
If you haven't read this thread, the summary is: I bought my current scooter on a whim, and found out it might not be fast enough for my needs. I'd like one that I can cruise at 45 mph and I weigh roughly 235 pounds and am 6'4". This is only a play toy and I won't be using it for commuting.
The poll consensus is that I should get a 150cc+ scoot, but I also like the idea of taking a slow machine and tinkering with it to make it faster. What I don't want is something unreliable, and I also don't want a race build two stroke that only makes power at 10k+. After reading many many threads, that leaves me with the impression that I should look for a 150cc scooter, a 50cc 2T that will accept a 90cc top end, or build a 139QMB with upgraded parts including crank.
The three that are available right now are a:
2001 CPI Hussar. This is a 2T with what I believe an engine that will take a 90cc top end. If I remember correctly, this engine has large ends on the crank but a 10mm pin. There's really not a lot of info on this scooter, and it seems kind of rare in the US, but common in Europe. This scooter looks to be in really nice shape but has been sitting for a number of years. They want $600 which seems a bit much too me, especially given the mods I'd like to do. The nice thing is that this scooter is very close to where I live and only has 1200 miles.
The next one is a 2006 ACE sports Arrow 150 for $300 obo. It needs a throttle cable, the speedo doesn't work, and some other minor problems. It looks to be in ok condition, but I would need to find out more about it before I go look at it. It has about 4k miles on it. It's also about 3 hours away.
The final one is a 2007 TGB R5 Laser. This one is also about 3 hours away. This one is a bit of a wild card. It currently doesn't run, the starter doesn't work, and judging by the picture, the throttle cable isn't right. I can tell a kid owns this, so it might be beat up. I don't know the real condition on it yet; I need to contact the owner and get more pictures if it's worth it. The asking price is only $150.
I don't need to buy any of these; they just seemed like they could be an interesting option. I also have the luxury to wait as long as I need to and jump on something special when it comes on the market. I just don't know what that something special might be.
I'm also curious what my current scooter will be like once I put the BBK on it. Unfortunately, I won't know for another 4 or so months until the weather warms up and I can install the BBK and ride it. I have minimal money into this machine so I don't mind putting a few bucks into it.

If you check out dexameths build, he's got a sweet setup 139qmb that wheelies a lot. Good cruiser too. Theres a few other 52mph machines in 139 as well.
90's t2 is a great example of a modified 90 2 stroke that gets the job done, loads of acceleration, and hits 60+ mph. Thats pretty much a stock/sport porting on a 50-54mm cylinder and a stroker crank. Plus he knows -that build- as he's perfected it a few dozen times over lol
150's are not bad, but replacement parts cost a few bucks more, and performance gains are...? Well, short of getting a ruck engine and working that up with our newfound TR friends, the waters are slightly murky here - though they are similar to a 139.
Totally your call. As for the new options you listed for sale, i personally love a 2 stroke. That cpi, though its 600, is a midtier brand with better quality parts. Plus those cpi cases are very meaty, great for machining to a 90+
