Recently I have been having a starting problem with my 2016 TaoTao 80cc big bore moped.
The problem really occurs when it is cold outside or if its the first start of the day. I usually don't have an issue starting it when it's warmer outside, or after it has been warmed up. When I go to start the moped on a cold day the electric start takes a while, and then it will all the sudden start and its fine. I can tell that the electric choke is working because it will rev until the motor is warm then drop the rpm. Sometimes the rpm drops rather low after the electric choke is disengaged though. I can kick-start the motor and it usually starts on the first or second kick.
Another possible separate or related issue is that after riding the moped, I smell heavily of gas fumes. And it almost seems that the colder it is outside, the more I smell like gas after I am done riding it.
I have: Adjusted the valves Cleaned the carb New CDI
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's possible you are running really rich if your smelling gas. What size jets are you running/what size carburetor?

Check the battery condition. Could be getting weak and cold weather will make it even worse.
If you smell like raw gas, my first check would be for leaks in the fuel system and make sure the air filter isn't wet from fuel.

If you smell like raw gas, my first check would be for leaks in the fuel system and make sure the air filter isn't wet from fuel. I am not seeing any signs of a leak anywhere on the moped. The past couple days it has been really cold and I noticed that as soon as the automatic choke is disengaged, the moped idle gets lower and lower. Today I had to give it gas to make sure it didn't die. After about a 1 minute of helping it a little, it's completely fine. Finally, one other thing I noticed when driving it in the cold. If the moped is not to operating temperature but the choke is off, after coming to a complete stop and then throttling it, it sputters for like half a second then continue on.

80 main on a big bore kit? mine came factory with an 85 and I'm not sure the pilot jet size I don't have performance issues when it runs. I can get it to start with the kickstarter within 3 kicks, but it seems to want to bog down after the choke comes off.

Its not a choke but an enricher that's why it runs better
