Hi, i have an old 50cc 4stroke scooter with a pretty rusty muffler. it is almost falling apart and right now i cant buy a new one. Would it be okay to run it without just the muffler or could it cause any damage to the engine? Thanks

50cc 4stroke scooter with a pretty rusty muffler . . almost falling apart If the previously referenced Peugeot v-clic . . might consider wrapping the muffler with a silicone oven sheet as a temporary fix.

Careful with the silicone oven sheet idea. Those mats are only rated to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. A blob of that stuff when it's melted is like napalm.

The danger (to the engine) is from cool air being drawn back into the combustion chamber and causing the engine to run lean.
Yes, that can cause damage.

I would leave as much pipe length on it as possible. The shorter the exhaust the harder it is on the motor. If it's the muffler portion of the pipe that's bad you should be able to cut it off at the pipe and use a clamp on solution.

You can cut it off as far away from the header as you can. You can also find a lawnmower exhaust to put on the end of the pipe to reduce noise

as long as there is some sort of pipe to prevent inversion of cold air into the valve, it will be fine
