Hey guys. Love to give advise.. also love to get it! In this case I'm looking for some..
I've got this 2014 taotao I brought back to life. Stock airbox (restrictions removed).. custom free flow exhaust.. and I installed a 50mm bore kit on it.. which was previously on another tao. Carb is tuned properly.. plug is definitely BLACK. I mean like.. oil in combustion chamber black..
So I'm thinking.. I installed it in a hurry (kids crying wife bitching.. I spare the rest). The only thing I can think is that my piston rings aren't offset.. allowing oil to seep into the top of my piston. I know it has oil in chamber because it runs and sounds great but smells terrible and blows BLUE smoke out from exhaust.
Anyways.. I'm kind of all over the place.. I'm going to check rings but what else can be a possible cause? I can't think of any but some advice would be awesome..
1 more thing.. thing was out of oil the other day.. like.. it was full with fresh oil change 200 miles ago and is now empty. No leaks under engine but it's going somewhere!
Thank you guys in advance. Scoot on!

Is valve cover vent hose connected to intake manifold?

Negative. It's mimicking a drain hose. No oil leaking from it

I'd post a vid but don't know how yet on here

Are your valve oil seal intact / in place? You could be sucking air and oil through your cylinder head
You can find them under your valve spring

I'd post a vid but don't know how yet on here Save your video to Youtube or any of the supported sites. Copy the address then click on the Icon with the film clapper that's located at the top of the message window and paste the URL address. Like magic the video is in the message.

Nice.
I'll definitely check those seals.. Don't know why I didn't think of that hah. One of the rings could definitely be out of place as well. I suppose I'll have access to all of that when I inspect the rings. Cylinder head only had about 150 miles on it. But id imagine running it with no oil would heat it up enough to potentially destroy a valve seal.
I'll try and post a video. All you'll end up seeing is the smoke blowing out the exhaust though..

I'd be doubtful about valve seals though.. I would have a very lean condition id imagine.. and it shouldn't idle or run very good. Runs and idles totally fine.. just burning oil

Clock those rings bro! I do mine 2/3 of a circle apart. I've had rings go on me before, they looked fine but they were so bad that I had oil blowby and Scootie was blowing smoke rings! I was going through oil FAST too. If your valve seals are good, try new rings and clock them correctly.

Yep. I figured as much being that I slapped the kit on in record time.. rings were already set from old scoot.. I'm just making sure I cover all bases when I get that deep into it. Willing to bet it's them rings though

Opened her up today.. gave it an oil change.. or.. oil replenishing i should say... here's what I found. -abnormal wear on the side of my cylinder jug -damage on piston to match jug -top two rings were definitely lined up So I changed the rings up.. adjusted valves.. oil change.. put it all back together. No more smoke blowing but I don't know what to think about the piston and jug damage. Looks like I'll end up always having oil go through it haha. Crank bearings maybe? Here's some pics. Appreciate the feedback everyone.

Shouldnt cost much to replace.

I'm wondering if it's the crank.. lot of work replacing that thing hah. Not to mention the 50mm jug.

Both the piston and jug are toast. Scoring like that is permanent damage. I suspect you got too much distraction when doing the assembly, and got something wrong, such as one of the thin oil control rings. If the ring spacer is goofed, with the ends overlapped instead of abutting each other, you can get the kind of damage your parts show. I would just get another jug, piston, and rings. Less than $50 at several sites, though I do not know quality. I did buy a Glixal, and have inspected it a bit and think it looks good so far. To my door for l.t. $30. Un-believable, except here it sits. One other cause for excessive oil consumption is putting the compression rings in upside-down, one or the other or both. Likely second ring, FWIW. tom
Added: Having the ring gaps lined up will NOT cause cylinder and piston damage as shown. Either something bum in the ring install or possiblly run too hot or too lean. Likely not lacking in lube with all the oil being pumped through the cylinder, but could be 'spot' lack of lube

Thanks Tom. I was guessing it ran out of oil because rings were lined up... got way too hot and there we have it.
Was definitely in a hurry when we did it. Literally took bore kit off one scoot and put it on the other. Was probably only a 30 minute job to include valve adjustment. No worries though. That was the 6th bore kit ivebinstalled and first time I've had problems. I'll take the 30 dollar loss!
