I have an all-to-common belt question concerning the proper size. Firstly, the machine in question is not mine and I have no prior scooter encounters or experience. It belongs to a family member of mine and they have no prior work or maintenance history of this machine. Every indication points that this is a Peace Sports 50 model of the GY6 family with a stamp of 1P39QMB. I have personally operated this scooter when it was running and would operate up to 35+mph. It was operated by the owner on occasion with no issue, until a break down occurred. This is when I removed the Belt Drive cover and noticed a shredded belt, that had a very faint marking of 743 20 by PowerLink. Without hesitation I ordered the same belt and attempted to replace it, it is entirely way too big. No way it will engage the front gear and stay on the drive pulley. Googling this has led me to believe the correct belt is 669 18 30, as it is an 8 bolt with a 10" tire and 50cc by the markings on exterior. The only application the 743 20 would work on is the 125cc-150cc. What is boggling me is how the shredded 743 20 that I pulled out of it would have ever worked. I know of it successfully driving with no issue MULTIPLE times. The only possibility is that the belt was over-tightened into the front gear and sort of wedged in to place, or it is actually a 125cc-150cc. The second I do not believe. Can anyone shed any light on this as reassuring the 669 18 30 is the correct belt to order and how it would have operated

Any other opinions on the obvious over-sized belt....that matches the shredded belt I removed? Somehow managed to run fine up until it broke. I'm puzzled.

I'm really not sure how the big belt would have worked, unless it was mislabeled. Not sure how likely that is. Regardless, the 669 18 30 should be what you'd want.

Okay, I'll attempt another belt purchase. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some sort of design anomaly I might have missed in my research. Thanks for the timely replies and information. It's frustrating working on the equipment of others with no maintenance history or knowledge of the vehicle. Happy early Thanksgiving.

It likely was NOT running fine until it broke. It was more likely getting shredded more and more as it was being used. Some part of it likely turned to smoke, but might not have been very visible. I suspect it took some time for the damage to occur. You may find top speed lessened as either/both pulleys will be in an effectively 'smaller' diameter, where the longer belt allowed more expansion (belt rides higher==larger pulley). I think. tom

If the scoot has 12” wheels the 729mm belt is probably what you need.

as it is Belt blowup, you need to dismantle all CVT parts, inspect and clean properly. do not skip the task.
-"shredded belt, that had a very faint marking of 743 20 by PowerLink."
that Marking highly unlikely has anything to do with Belt lenght. Various China made belts have on them also other numbers than just Size markings. some belts even have these sorta type of "other numers on them" but are missing complitely size markings.
i have collected about 40 belts from various different China scoots etc from Bike Breaker. i have belts ^^ as pointed above with non-sense markings....and Missing Markings.
10"inch wheel Scooter is commonly known as 400mm/40cm shortcase. that 400mm is how the Belt 669 18 30 is pinpointed into it.
this 400mm/40cm is also how the Complite Gasket kit's are specifyed for the engine.
