Did you remove the variator when you changed the belt ?
If "NO", chances are the rollers in the variator are not positioned properly.

I did not remove it, could it still be the rollers? Would that cause me to lose that much on a flat? 30mph difference seems steep over just rollers! As I said I have no idea how these engines operate. I can swab a b16 in a moments notice so I assume these should not be that complex.

Has to be the wrong size belt.. or you've got some serious roller issues. Or your clutch is slipping like mad. Excessive amount of dust in cvt after changing belt?

When the belt breaks, the rollers can get out of place because nothing is there to keep the variator pushed back. You can also get debris in various parts. If I break a belt, I clean the entire CVT.

So i finally got around to ripping this scooter apart, Cleaned the clutch the variatior, Noticed the rubber clips that support the rollers were missing. Replaced and i am now happily cursing at 35mph. still 10 MPH lower, but i am gonna tweak and tune to get everything adjusted!
