Maybe try a new spark plug too. I had a bad one once

Remove the air filter assembly and place a hand over the intake. Have someone kick it over a few times. You should feel suction develop. If not, the crankcase may have a leak, or the reeds are not free to move. If you replaced the originals with 'something', make sure there's room for them to flex and they are not blocked from opening. If the crankcase is not sealed, you'll get low vacuum, hard starting, etc. The cylinder can leak where it meets the crankcase, or the seals on the crankshaft may be not seated all the way, or have too much clearance on the crankshaft sealing surface. Squirt some soap bubbles/goop near the seals, and kick it over. If it sucks the bubbles in.... tom
