So around 2 months ago my scooter suddenly won't start, I was riding it a day before and the next day without any problems and the next morning I try to start it and it won't. So I checked for spark and if its getting fuel and everything was fine, I cleaned carb and replaced the choke and it somehow started and was driving fine and started fine on first try, then a week passed and just like that it wont start again, I checked everything again and somehow it started and the same thing happened again it just suddenly won't start, since I have another exact same scooter at home I tried replacing carb, spark plug, ignition coil, cdi unit and just bought new fuel, the scooter just cranks and cranks but won't start. The scooter is BAOTIAN ROCKY 12E1 2T, 1 year old with almost 4000 kilometers, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with it since I somehow got it to start 2 times already it can't be something big or can it? Thanks for any answers!

My first thought when a scooter runs fine but has some starting issues is usually air/fuel related. Could be flooding if it sits from a bad float setting or petcock or combo of both. If that happens, it may start if you hold the throttle wide open when cranking to help clear it out. Could be that a mixture screw adjustment would help it out. You can look at the spark plug after you've tried to start it to see if it shows you anything obvious, like being covered in fuel for example. It's not a fix, more of a crutch, but sometimes iridium plugs will help to alleviate minor starting issues. I used an iridium when I first got into scoots because my autochoke couldn't seem to compensate for real cold weather and that made it hard to start. Helped a bit.

Have you checked that you have spark? What does the plug look like? It could be time for a new one. With 4000 miles on a Chinese 2T it could possibly be the crankcase seals or maybe compression, 2 easy things to check. Here is a link to no start tests try them, at the bottom is the compression test: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/647?page=1#8207. Here is the leak down tester: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/506. I wish you luck.

What is the current valve clearance?

the spark plug is covered in fuel after trying to start it Explore things that may make it flood then. Float height too high, petcock allowing fuel past even when the scoot is off, rich mixture. Try holding the throttle open to see if you can get it started. What is the current valve clearance? It's a two-stroke.

Thanks Brent. I promise not to look at the board without my glasses again.

even if i hold throttle open it wont start and tried playing with mixture, i looked at reed valve and it was kinda open so i tried with another which looked good and still not starting, but to me it looks like sparkplug is too wet.

You can try pulling out the plug and cranking it to see if it will clear out. If you're seeing any fuel coming from the exhaust when cranking, it may be in the crankcase and need that clearing out. Happens sometimes if the float lets fuel past enough that it can end up running down the intake and into the engine while it's parked.

Tried without plug and I can see fuel on my hand if put it on the hole and there is no fuel comming out of exhaust.

So I just took exhaust off and found there was around 1dcl of fuel in there but scooter still wont start... Does anyone know why there would be fuel in the exhaust?

Extreme rich or leak. Way out carb tune or reed failure. Float height, petcock malfunction... fuel finding it's way past the carb into the engine even when it's off. The tune and reed failure is pretty much ruled out by the fact that you said it runs fine once it's started.

Ok I found the problem, it was the piston rings that were stuck on piston so I replaced the piston and it started right away. Thanks everyone who helped.

Have you tried replacing the fuel petcock, could not be working right causing gas to bypass and flood.
