bought a 08/09 sr50 piaggio engine fuel injected engine. Had no compression. Bought new rings and base gasket. Still no compression. What else could it be? What am I missing?

Poor cylinder surface or the wrong piston for the cylinder or head gasket not sealing or leaking spark plug threads come to mind. There's also the possibility of a faulty compression tester, but you should be able to feel the difference in no compression and good compression turning the engine over.

Did you open the throttle 100% when testing?

Crank seals old and cracked...piston installed backwards.

No compression at all or just low? They tend to show low compression but it doesnt mean its worn. Some info here www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=172245

I believe it's the rubber o-ring between the head and cylinder. It was streched out when I was putting it back together. Going to order a new one today. Probably get the gasket set with piston and rings for 30 sum dollars.

quick question when doing a compression check ....does the exhaust have to be on to get an accurate test and what is the theory of having the throttle in wot

Exhaust doesn't matter. Throttle has to be wide open or the engine won't get enough air to compress.
