Hey guys. I have a question here. Can a coil off a taotao work on a jonway 50cc?

I'd say go for it. They look very similar. Nothing mystical about a coil anyway. Some guys put late model Ford COP type coils on their GY6 scoots with good results.
Plug and scoot.

The coils are totally swappable. They both run from the same type of CDI unit, and operate a spark plug which is exactly the same, brand name being excluded. All the replacements from various vendors are not brand specific, so you can mix and match as you wish. Only caveat is DC vs AC CDI modules. tom

FWIW, i swapped a cr85 coil into my old 50cc and it was direct fit, had a stronger spark and easier starts than the junky old chinese one i was using.

Where is the the second connector to plug the electrical wire [my coil has a green end and a black end I believe], but on the picture, there is only one end]

That's what you need to ground as well. Sometimes they're just grounded by being bolted to the frame. You can put a ring terminal on the ground wire to your old coil on the bolt where it attaches to the frame.

I made a short adaptor wire to go from a male blade to a ring terminal. Connected to ground wire for coil. Ran the mounting bolt through the ring and the ground on the coil. Connected positive as normal.
Gave me a stronger spark, and if i ever wanted to switch to a standard coil it was a plug and play affair.
