hello all. i own a TaoTao racer 50 and was wondering if i should buy a performance exhaust. the bike uses a 100cc big bore kit. with that being said, would the bike benefit from using a performance pipe? is the pipe that comes with the bike already a performance pipe? i just don't want to waste money on a pipe if there's not going to be any gains. any ideas?

If its a 4stroke, a pipe won't hurt it, but it's not going to give you the gains you'd expect. The current stock pipe isn't designed to pass exhaust from a 100cc kit as well, but it won't hurt a larger kit. Performance pipes for a 139qmb engine are slightly larger diameter throughout and especially through the silencer, so expect a bit louder exhaust note. Gains, like i said, are minimal at best, but if every ounce counts.
You should ALWAYS rejet your current carb and do some cvt tuning. 99% of your performance gains or issues are in bad jetting or cvt setup. Its the first thing i do to a scoot - and after every upgrade.
If you need more performance, a larger bore carb (20-24mm) and a performance cam will add more than a pipe. Then a better variator, rear pulley, clutch, and belt. Perhaps regearing your final drive. Then a pipe. That's my preferential order of upgrades. I wouldn't expect more than a solid 50mph top speed, improved acceleration, and loads better power going up hills and against the wind.
Keep in mind though, the further you upgrade, the faster parts break down. If you need more power - reliably - get your motorcycle stamp and get a 150cc scooter. A stock 150 will be more reliable than a fully modified 50 and offer the same or slightly more performance.
Or get a 2 stroke and really start going crazy learning how to tune! Don't worry, we'll be here to help.

It's ugly but these sound good on those engines and give as much of a performance gain as any expensive pipe will. Plain old 5hp Briggs and Stratton muffler. If you rummage a bit in the plumbing aisle you can even figure out how to attach it without getting a welder involved.

If you decide to make your own pipe, be sure you have a long enough header to prevent fresh air being introduced during the reversal pulse. Being its not a tuned pipe like one needs on a 2 stroke, having a length roughly 16 inches before the silencer "should" be adequate. Measure your current pipe from the flange to the silencer and duplicate that - or cut the silencer off the current pipeand weld/fit a new muffler on it. Easiest method.

No need to change the original pipe. A9 cams seem to work?

I have performance exhaust and even on the stock 50cc bore there is improvement in top end speed
For full effect put head with bigger valves because you have bbk,and bigger main jet will be needed
