So I am currently tearing apart my 2006 Ruckus with less than 3,000 miles on the original engine. It’s definitely been sitting around for a long time and has gathered a lot of dust all over the bike, inside and out that I am currently brushing off.
I am writing to you guys because of a few things, it looks like this bike was used a lot around the countryside and just got a lot of dust in the engine bay, (just to give you an idea of what it’s been exposed to) the engine is Under 3K miles which is not much for this bike (even for a 2006) so I can’t imagine that anything mechanically is too wrong aside from some funky gunky gas in all the fuel lines which I have been trying to clean out as well. Where else should I clean?
Also:
Where should I go from here in terms of trouble shooting.?
I don’t want to believe that I have a bad stator, but it’s a possibility because the ruckus will just idle until it dies, and when I rev the engine it also dies.
Please help me

Have you cleaned the carb and drained the old gas? When I say cleaned do it like brent did in this post 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/363. Its a minarelli carb but it gives you an idea. Careful of the rubber parts keep cleaner away from them. Don't ask how I know.

plus one with pinkscoot, don,t just brush the dust off,the engine needs to be clean before you work on it cover the air filter inlet and wrap the electrics in plastic bags and clean with glee,as you say it,s running so once you have cleaned the carb (leave the settings alone for now) make sure the fuel is fresh and the air filter clean, the air box needs to complete sealed and connected. Then try it again, the stator would be last on the list of suspects but there are plenty of ruckus owners to help you out
oh and welcome to the forum geoff

Careful of the rubber parts keep cleaner away from them. Don't ask how I know. It’s stock and dies when you twist the throttle. Fuel filter clean....probably ok. Jets probably plugged if it was just sitting around for long time. Gas vaped off and left a shellac. Just buy some new ones. You need to be able to see light through them. 38sj. 78mj. I have extra if you need them.
