I have read a lot about the contra spring and how it works. I have a large hill on my daily ride to work that slows me down to 30mph on a good day free of wind, 25 on windy day. I currently have a malossi vari with 5gram ncy rollers and a white malossi contra spring. My concern is will my engine have enough power to over come the stronger contra spring to still allow a top speed of at least 40mph. Currently I can do 40 plus on flats, 50 plus coming down that big hill. My rpm stay around 7300-7700 at WOT hills or flats. Stock bore 49cc, 90vertgt free timing advance mod, stock air box with restrictions removed, adjusted needle clip. Should receive my carb jet kit (10 jets) in the mail any day now, then I can add the UNI pod air filter. Bonus question, best after market exhaust pipe for the stock bore 49cc? This 4stroke Taotao VIP is a dog compared to my old school 2stroke 2000 honda elite SR.

I would try a lighter set of sliders first and see if that does anything for you. If you go with a stiffer contra, I'd prob try a 1500 NCY vs the 2000. I haven't found the need for ultra stiff contra springs, and mostly use an NCY 1000RPM, but I don't really deal with any hills. My thought is that with my weight the scoot probably always acts like it's on a hill.
If you really want gains, I'd suggest a 47mm big bore kit. That's going to do way more for you than the other bolt ons.

I'm running that exhaust on my Vespa S50. Not sure if it did much but with the DB killer pulled it makes the scoot a little throatier. I'd save your money and add a BBK and possible cam.

I think 4g sliders would be a good choice from the 5g rollers. You can always add aluminum foil to them to make them heavier if you have a small scale.

I think 4g sliders would be a good choice from the 5g rollers. You can always add aluminum foil to them to make them heavier if you have a small scale. I used this aluminum foil trick and found that using Reynolds heavy weight foil I could cram in about 1 extra gram of weight. Someone has posted somewhere that it takes about 4 inches of full width foil to equal 1 gram I think that's correct. But anyway if you want to try even more weight you could add Daisy .177 flat nose pellets into the foil pak. The pellets I have weighed in at about .49 grams each. So a foil / pellet mix gives you more roller weight choices for experimentation. There are also tiny fishing weights called Split Shot available that could be used for roller weighting too. But I don't have any. They come in a variety of weights and from different makers these days too so lots of choices there. Greg
