My rear drum brake does almost nothing to actually stop the scooter. I believe it may be somehow contaminated so does anyone have any clever little tricks that mean I could spray brake cleaner or something into there without removing the rear wheel or is this going to be an awkward wheel removal kinda thing. Haven't really had a look at the scooter because I'm away so I may be completely off what's actually possible so let me know if I am. Thanks.

Gotta pull the wheel to get in there and inspect/clean/replace as needed..No "bandaid fix" here...

Have you tried adjusting the cable. The adjustment nut is at the lower back side of the motor.

Could be a seized cable then. If you wind the adjuster off, the lever should pull in easily, and smoothly to the bar. Would check this first. Easier than taking the wheel off. Depending on what exhaust you have, it might have to come off, to remove the wheel.

I don't think it's a seized cable because when I pull the lever the lever on the drum moves freely and when it's still the rear brake does have a slight effect, just it's so weak that I can hardly feel it when I'm moving. I think it's going to have to be a wheel off job, I'll have to see if I can do it with my exhaust on (fingers crossed) as it's quite small but knowing my luck...

brombra, some scoots get in an awful state of disrepair and one thing affects another why not start a thread "My scoot" and some model info so we can help you sort it out.

I had the actuating cam seize up on one from the whole galvanic steel in aluminum thing. Pulled it apart and polished things and it went from no brake to really nice brake.

Yeah luckily mine isn't seized because it clearly moves when I pull the lever there just isn't any bite so it's just a case of contamination I think.

Could be a leaking shaft seal allowing lube to get on the shoes..Yank that wheel off and reply on what you see...

Yeah I've feared something like that as I wondered how contaminants would even get in there in the first place. When I get time, as I've just entered exam season in the UK, I'll post back on here what I see. Wish me luck...
