Back story, I got my ruckus 4 years ago, I ride to work every day 27 miles each way. rain snow and shine.
Problem, This last fall it started having some problems, when the ruck heats up too much. it started to kill the engine mid ride. I would pull over and let it cool and the continue. Started once every couple rides. then began to become more frequent. Now its every 4-5 miles. I gave the bike a tune up new belt rollers spark and oil. I noticed that the variator was getting grooves in the metal. so I got a new one. The problem continued. I just replaced the clutch pads. and it runs way better. but half way through a 12 mile trial ride it died. only once though so better. but im stuck on what to check next. any advice would be appreciated.
Bike 2014 Honda Ruckus Stock engine 8g weights in variator 38 82 jets in the carb.

when the ruck heats up too much. it started to kill the engine When the engine dies . . did you pull the sparkplug boot, insert a 2nd plug, and ground to verify spark? If no spark, the pulsar/pickup/trigger coil may be deficient . . parts diagram (part adjacent to #10 bolts).

Stock Ruck w/ 82MJ Is too big so you are not lean (80MJ is more than enough) w/ 8 gr weights your ruck is laboring at low rpm through the power range. Either take out 3 weights (stagger) or GET 4.5 g (dr pulleys are great). RPMs will go up nicely and fan will push more are over radiator.
A 2014 should not have problems w/ the thermostat yet. its new.
Start the scoot, open the radiator cap and run for a bit. You have a bit of air in the system.
Post results and a pic of the variator.

Things to check when an engine dies after reaching operating temperature; Coil CDI - either may get goofy if a winding opens up due to temperature. Will stay open and provide no or intermittent spark until closing again, completing the circuit so it can produce spark. Fuel - filter slightly plugged, causing slower fuel delivery, finally float bowl level getting too low to produce a good fuel:air mix. Vacuum petcock has leaks and slowly closes, fuel outlet in tank has cruds that slow flow from tank, fuel line compromised internally blocking flow, sticking float valve. Finally, valve adjustment closing up due to wear on the seats/valve, leading to compression leakage, lower compression, and finally not enough to run. Checking clearance will verify. These are 'generic' causes/explanations. tom

Back story, I got my ruckus 4 years ago, I ride to work every day 27 miles each way. rain snow and shine. Problem, This last fall it started having some problems, when the ruck "heats up too much". "it started to kill the engine mid ride". I would pull over and "let it cool" and the continue. Started once every couple rides. Sounds like you are stating that it is overheating...what does your owner's manual say about when you should flush the system? How many miles are on the bike? If oil level is good...jetting is straight...then your cooling system is most likely to blame!

if a ruckus overheats it will go into limp mode, and you will only be able to go 10mph
