So perhaps you could place your fingers on the CVT cover and perform a variation of a "Vulcan mind meld" . . in addition to seeking telepathic diagnosis from others. Just NOT seeing much initiative on your part! Somewhat related posting . . 3 years on a 50cc scooter daily.

There is nothing more to say other than it is a gy6 50cc long case engine with a whining sound coming from the cvt, someone who has been riding a scoot with this engine for a while must have experienced this at some point since I cant be the only one with this problem,as I sad before it is a cvt issue and there cant be more than 2 or 3 reasons causing this If you dont know much about cvt's it wouldnt help even if I pinpointed you the problem, and in that case I wouldnt even need your help

I hear this on my current one and did on my previous one as well. I also usually hear it coming from the intake but it could be my mind playing tricks on me. When I had my CVT cover off and was riding it, it was particularly loud. When you taking something and spin it several thousands of times per minute, it will generate high frequency noises. As it slows down, the frequency will drop and will make that whine. As far as if the intake does it, same concept but with shoving air into a small hole.

With noises like that and lack the of info you are getting back to your inquiry it sounds like time to open up the CVT and check the variator and the entire clutch assembly. Mine was assembled incorrectly when new. It didn't make noises but it slung grease everywhere and needed some o-rings replaced. Your problem is probably different but you'll just have to have a good look first.
Good luck and happy wrenching.

I would have suggested checking the lube level in the gearbox. It has 3 shafts with gears, and a half dozen ball bearings. If run low on lube, the teeth are likely to get damaged, and the ball bearings overheat. It WILL make more noise after that until it quits working altogether. 90GTVert has a video on his gearbox, kinda noisy when it was failing due to low lube level. Cooked the bearings, as I remember. He also has a video on replacing the bearings. Failed bearings are a real mess to clean up, and leave lots of little bits of 'stuff' in the races of the other bearings, which are likely also to be on their way to failure. Bits will not fit between the ball and the race without something having to give, leading to damage to the bearing surfaces, which adds more failing area. Snowball. A quick check is to remove the fill opening plug and see if lube seeps out. If not, add 85W90 until you get a bit coming out. Be sure to have the scoot upright and level when checking/filling. tom

Mine does it at low speed. I run an open CVT with a custom little cover to hold the starter bendix in. When I'm riding through a parking lot it sounds like a turbo spooling up between 3500ish and 5000ish rpms. Kinda funny.
Still looking for a recorder tip (the school music instrument) to shove in my muffler tip to make my scooter sound like the Jetson's mobile.

How many here even know who Geo Jetson is? Where are the flying cars promised over and over to be 'ten years in the future'..? I think you'll have to resort to electronics to get that particular sound effect. Maybe a customized 'talking greeting card' gizmo programmed with the right noise, connected to amplified speakers? tom
