This head however looks good to me, both valves black

With the valves closed, pour a thin liquid (if flammable, do it outside) into the port. No leakage thru valve, it's ok.

And you can rent compressors at most auto part stores.

If you bap the valve spring retainer washer(?) with a hammer, many times you'll have projectile parts flow. The keeper(s) may decide to take flight, and then you can remove the keeper & spring, and slide the valve out of the head. Problem is locating the keeper that took flight. Surprised the heck out of me when all I wanted to do was to make sure the parts were 'broken free' and could be separated. I planned to use my thumbs to depress the spring, and a magnet to remove the keepers. No need, they flew... So, if they are not locked together by time & lube that has turned to glue, you can remove the parts if your thumbs are strong enough and you have something to pick the keeper from the washer cone. Installation is the reverse, no tool necessary. You may want to wear gloves if the edges of your machined surfaces are sharp and cutting.(or round them off...) tom
