1988 jog starting problem (solved with solution)

So my vertical has been a pain to start,insert picture of boot and sweat,sat around for 28years it.s excused for being a tad fussy about running or not,mostly not.But I want it to be my summer daily drive!.Symtoms
will kick start eventually,then runs sweet as a lark in spring
stock everything no mods yet
once stopped will restart mostly
replaced coil,plug,reset carb,leak test,comp test all passed with honours
give it a few days standing and back to zero,my solution was to remove the reed block and syphon out the gunk I,d pumped in kickstarting it over and over again.
So the cause of all my grief and fustration was the petcock diaphram leaking a little gas down the vacum line and thus into the engine,an easy fix but hard to find.
