Ok, my cdi is big, and has only 1 wire in the 2 wire slot like a DC cdi. But the engine runs without the battery connected? So it has to be AC cdi- right???

It won't kick start with the battery disconnected.

then it is probably a dc cdi. an ac cdi can be kick started without a battery.
a running engine produces dc even without a battery.

Ok, thanks for the info. I guess the two I've tried are both ac cdi's. With them hooked up it'll crank over a few times then blow the fuse by the battery. I'll look for a DC one and see how it goes, thanks again!

most DC-cdi's have 4-pin's on connector block. also the size varies, so "big size" isnt always absolute sign of dc-cdi..... also, you can see if a strong Neondynom/earth magnet gets stuck on it. usually on the bottom RH-corner, from component side of the PCB. most china scooter DC-cdi's have a "transformer" on the pcb, it has iron core, hence strong magnet will get stuck onto it. this magnet identification isnt always absolute Trick, as some dc-cdi's have some other component construction Layout.... like a "diode bridge"... see how many Signs you can identify. and also check your Vehicle parts list/W.S.M and owners manual. cdi spec is absolute mentioned on some of those.
i have all of these parts my self, i have approx 40+ diff cdi's for China scooters etc china vehicles. and also european scooters/mopeds.

One can always trace out the wiring to the CDI and see if it connects to the battery etc.
