I got a SR50 Aprilia for $100 that had sat for 8 years. The oil gravity fed into the engine and pipe over the years and I thought it might have a catalyst due to the weight of the pipe. I cut the pipe in half and found the weight was mainly the heavy stock steel used from the factory and the fiberglass inside was soaked in oil. So here I was in my fab shop with a pipe cut in half so I built a pipe, saving the header, with pieces of exhaust tubing-no science or ruler was used. I tack welded it all together and gave it a good rubdown with brake cleaner and applied HVAC silver tape to the non welded joints just to ride it around the block a few times and see what it would do. The HVAC tape withstood a few miles of heat and I removed the tape with a heat gun and razor blade then finished it off with brazing rod, filling all the gaps. I eliminated the silencer since it was intended as a pit bike at land speed races and nobody cares if it is loud. The HVAC tape let me do any mods first without doing the final welding. The scoot ran great after modifying the airbox and would hit 43 mph with two guys onboard. It has a fuel problem now I have not solved and performance is terrible like it is running out of fuel. I have a new Baleigh slip roll and will try a new pipe with some science behind the design this winter. Friday

Thanks for this. I added your trick to the 2T pipe building thread.
