I just finally got an unrestricted cdi for my Kymco people and it has this little adjustable knob on it. I've heard it's for advancing or retarding the timing, does anyone know for sure before I mess with it?

Most likely that's what it's for. Unfortunately, who knows how it adjusts timing. The one I have basically just moves the advance. Same curve, but moves when adjusted so advance can come in earlier or later. Others may adjust the amount of advance.

You think I'll screw anything up by experimenting with it?

Put premium in it. Listen for spark knock and back it down if you hear it. Generally be observant of how it runs. You should be alright.

Get a timeing light!
They are not that expensive, why guess and maybe screw your engine?
Besides, it would be nice to see if it really is doing what it says it is doing.
you might be able to get one for free to use at a autozone store
