Questions.
Did you check the oil before running ?
Did you turn engine over by hand to see if it was sticking or there was compression.
Same as previous question but with spark plug removed ?
Check compression with gauge ?
Try kick starting it ?
Not a good idea starting it with a car battery, especially if you have the car running. A lawn tractor battery or battery booster is a better option.

Perhaps you jostled some loose ground wires or positive wires in transit. Check for loose connections.
By using an auto battery you should have removed lack of battery voltage/amperage from the list of problems... HOW ever, you did not (not written anyway) check the condition of the cabling from the battery to ground and the two, one from battery to starter solenoid and from solenoid to the large starter terminal. I assume the starter is not turning the crankshaft very well... i.e., not cranking. tom
