2013 taotao 150cc 4 stroke ... as per title, the idle moves up and down within a limited range all on it's own. bogs down a bit when giving it throttle and on full throttle it doesn't quite rev freely. carb is squeaky clean inside and out. air filter is new with less than 10 miles on it. cannot find a vacuum leak anywhere. fuel is fresh. enricher extends as it warms up but the engine does not go into a fast idle on start-up; just the opposite, it idles slowly when cold, slowly picks up speed as it warms up, then goes into its up/down idle routine. as a last resort i took the brass cover off the idle mixture screw and removed the screw. it is clean and it's bore looks clean but i didnt spray any carb cleaner in there. re-installed carb, then tried adjusting the idle MIXTURE screw in and out. no difference ... in fact, the engine still idled even though i bottomed the screw out; can that be right ? also, even though i cleaned and cleaned, i am not 100% sure that the lengthwise bore of the idle JET screw is ok. it's hard to tell because the bore is so tiny, and my eyes are getting old, but there seems to be a burr inside there. could be an optical illusion though. a strand of wire from a wire brush will go through, but nothing larger. i can remove carb and try cleaning the bore of the idle MIXTURE screw with carb cleaner and compressed air, which i should have done 1st time around, but beyond that i am running out of ideas. could go the new carb route i suppose but this scooter only has 3400km (2500mi.) on it !

Have you sprayed carb cleaner between motor and carb while running to find possible vacuum leak?

Is for a Honda GET motor. Carb intake. Not sure if your motor has something similar

i figured that's what it was, but didn't want to assume. mine looks much different and is 100% plastic. i did check it for cracks, there are none. also the gasket is good but i applied some goo just to be sure. i read here somewhere that there may be a fuel filter inside the tank that is clogged, so will check for good fuel flow, hopefully today. meanwhile any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If adjusting the fuel air screw has no effect in idle, I would suggest that you have the idle speed set too high by the throttle stop. You have to adjust the throttle stop screw until it’s at the slowest RPM the bike will still run at, before stalling. Then adjust the mixture screw. You will find is has very little effect, but you want the fastest idle you can get with just that screw. Then set the idle with the throttle stop screw to get a comfortable idle.
Have yo tried unplugging the electric choke to see if it is effecting your idle when warm? I would start it and warm it up until you get the problem then unplug the electric choke

hi, ratdog ... thanks for the info re: setting idle mixture screw. also, unplugging the enricher when warm is a good suggestion. sadly, i have screwed myself ... i lost the rubber seal that goes on the idle mixture screw so i am just going to order a rebuild kit. sigh ... another 4 weeks or more waiting for a part from china. there is only 1 place that i know of in my area (vancouver) that has even heard of taotao or gy6 and they don't stock carb kits... but they will be happy to sell me an entire carb for $129.95 canadian plus taxes. i will trim my pubes with a chainsaw before i will drop that kind of money on a taotao.

hi, walleye. because i lost a small part of the idle mixture screw i am going to have to order a complete carb kit, so i guess i will use whatever size comes with the kit and see what happens. if that doesnt work then i will order an assortment of idle jets. project taotao resurrection now on hold while the slow boat makes its way over from china.

Joe Bob, I know they have Amazon in Canada! You could get a whole new carb off Amazon under $30. Ok, I’m guessing at the price but I know what they are in USD and the discount rate isn’t THAT much. ( I live 3 miles from Canada. I take my bicycle rides along the river and look at Canada almost every day!)
