my brouther just acquired two Vespa LX50s one has a title the other dosent. Right now he gets about 32 mph max out of the runing bike. His grand plan is to take the engine out of the other one and build it for more preformance over the Winter. That allowed him to ride the bike and work on it too (G). Of course the plan is to put the modified engine in the bike with a title and tag next spring in the hopes he can get up in to the 40 mph bracket so he dosent get run down!
anyone that has experience with this little guy, or wants to offer advice, or suggest sources for ” hop up” parts, please share. Right now he is dealing with the Vespa dealer who is charging way to much for parts.
its been a few years but my brother used to build drag racing engines ( cars) so he knows the difference between a cam shaft and an oil pump (G)
Thanks!

The LX50 is not a fast scooter. Look on ModernVespa and you’ll find some threads on these scoots. Scooterpartsco.com has great prices on Malossi parts. I would think a BBK, variator and up gearing would find you some more speed. I went to the 4 valve engine and found more speed there.

Got a true 48mph out of mine with gps when bought it all appeared stock when had carb off, standard exhaust system with cat and emission system was still fitted as was baffle or whatever its called on carb. I can only presume they removed the restrictor ring on variator but not looked at that side. As said loads of information on modern Vespa and other forums once you read past the guff.
