I have gone threw several intakes now in the last year. This one I just bought is the 4th one. I have a 20mm carb but every single intake I buy is always a 24mm carb side or higher....Only reason they keep breaking is because of how tight I have to make the clamp to tighten it around the carb....after a month or so it splits on the inner seem and works its way out...What do you guys suggest I do? I was thinking about buying a new carb and using tape to fill the gap little bit and to take some of the stress away. let me know...

Why don’t you go to the metal intake runner. You can get better preformance and it should last without cracking. The three bikes I have been working on now all have metal intake runners

I'm confused(nothing new there...). Do you have the stock air cleaner box, filter, and tube? If so, and the intake tube keeps splitting, then it may be you are tightening it too much, and cutting the 'rubber'. If the tube fits over the carb air intake 'bell' with no problem, then it only needs to be clamped lightly. If you do tighten the clamp too much, the tube will get cut as it is squeezed between the carb and the clamp. As they say, lighten up? tom

you are talking about the intake boot that runs from the carb to the cylinder... right? it sounds like maybe a reply or two was talking about the air fliter side and they were confused...? Or I am wrong and I am confused! Either way it doesn't matter because my advice will be ab out the same. It sounds like the carb is too small for whichever side you are clamping onto it...so the cheap way to fix it would be to get some rubber like from a strong balloon like the ones at dollar stores with rubber band attached that kids punch...take that rubber and cut it into a spacer between the carb and the clamp and voila! you won't have to clamp it so hard that it brakes. Just try not to leave much, if any of the balloon exposed into the intake travt as it could either come loose and become a problem in your intake tract or if it is between the carb and the cylinder, then the gasoline could break down certain types of cheap rubber and break off small pieces eventually... But if you do it correctly so no large pieces will fall into intake, then I stand my ground it is an ok very cheap and temporary fix. Maybe you could also find a coupling at the hardware store that could work if you have room. they make rubber hose clamp coupling where the two ends are different sizes and you could probably find one with a 1/4" difference on the two ends that may work for the $5 or however much if you have room. Or take a piece of rubber hose that fits tightly over the carb and just cut 1/2" length of that, fir it over the end of the carb and clamp down on that would solve it also
