2018 Gator 50-E2
890 Miles
All maintenance performed at 500 miles
Carb cleaned at 800 miles in attempt to eliminate the issue below with no changes
Purchased brand new from authorized dealer
One owner (Me)
Issue Described
These symptoms were present before any maintenance was performed.
1. Start cold
2. If idling, bike will die within one to two minutes
3. If run, bike performs decent for thirty seconds, then bogs down, speed slowly drops, bike dies
4. Restart bike, runs bogged, speed is now limited to 15/20, speed will slowly drop again, bike dies
5. Restart bike, runs bogged, run for five minutes with no stopping, bog will slowly ease, speed will normalize
6. Thereafter, bike runs fine, starts, restarts, idles, rides, will not stall even when stopped
7. Turn bike off, let bike rest beyond thirty minutes, symptoms repeat, otherwise, bike runs fine
8. On a side note this bike has always idled around 3,500 to 3,700 rpm
Maintenance Performed
1. Motor oil changed
2. Gear oil changed
3. Spark plug changed
4. Carb was opened and cleaned with no change in symptoms
5. 93 octane has always been used as directed by the dealer
6. Bike is used in a subtropical humid climate and is always garaged if that matters
7. Bike did go through heavy rain a month ago and the symptoms were not as bad but were still there
Other Considerations
I am no mechanic but it would seem this could be a fuel starvation issue or fuel flood issue when the bike is first started. Maybe something to do with the remaining fuel in the bowl?
Also the bike has low end hesitation for a split second from a dead stop even once performing well. There is no mid or high range hesitation in the power band. I usually throttle up a nudge right before green at intersections to avoid the hesitation when accelerating from stop.
This bike is becoming dangerous. I have to ride the bike on unpopular roadways to cycle through the above challenges before even thinking about entering traffic. I usually ride the bike around my neighborhood a few times so my neighbors can watch me stall and die three times over again.
Not to mention the unneeded wear it's putting on the starter. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. About ready to jump this bike into a lake.
And I don't know what this "Honda Spec" big deal is but the dealer couldn't stop mentioning it. I mean what do they torque certain bolts to the specification of Honda's builds and call it Honda quality or something?
