As I was tightening down the engine studs one SNAPPED! Well I guess I stripped the threads in the block. I tried pipe tape, different stud and no help. So I was thinking JB Weld? Good idea or not?

Cut the threads into the case deeper if there is room. Or use a larger size stud into the case, you may have to cut the portion that passes through the cylinder down to the original size by running a die over the new stud.

Search for time-sert and the size you need. Others here have used them.
I dont know if JB weld is gonna hold.

Blind hole ? Thru hole ? Head stud or other ?
If its a head stud, I wouldn't recommend JB Weld. I would use a thread insert.

heli coil or other thread insert.
If you have to take it to a machine shop and get them to install it.

Do Not use JB Weld (although it is good). Epoxy will not hold threads under tension. Helicoil is best. They are sold by specific size for about $25. They can be installed by hand held drill and hand tools. Clear access to the hole and steady hands required. Beers required after.

I forgot about helicoils. It was a head stud, I don't want to go up a size and have to drill out the cylinder and head. The engine case is cheaper than the top end! And it seems that the threads were stripped in the middle, can't really explain it. But I guess helicoil will be my best bet.anyone know where to pick one up from? And do they go by size (diameter) or by thread?

They go by the thread size. 6mm 7mm ect. They come in a kit. You get a drill, tap, installation too and usually a few inserts. There are kits on ebay you can get for a reasonable price. The auto part stores are pricey. Keep in mind that the tap is specific to the insert. Its not a standard thread type(mm or inches)

And do they go by size (diameter) or by thread? They go by diameter and thread pitch. Like 7mm x 1.0 for example. Basically you buy the insert kit that pertains to the head stud diameter and thread pitch. You might want to look into making a drill guide and a tap guide to ensure you drill and tap straight. If you drill or tap at an angle, it translates into a lot of deflection at the top of the stud due to the stud's length. I took an old cylinder head and modified 2 of the existing holes, one to act as the drill guide and the other to act as the tap guide to ensure perpendicularly during drilling and tapping. I reverse aligned it on the drill press buy using a drill bit that was the closest size to the existing stud hole on the head. Chuck up the drill bit in the drill press, bring the drill bit down and pass it thru one of the existing holes while the flat side of the head sits flat on the drill press table. Once you have it targeted, clamp the head down to the table. Raise the bit back up and change it out to the tap size drill bit that is recommended for your insert/helicoil kit. Once that hole is complete, target another hole the same way, but you drill the second hole to the size of the tap's thread outer diameter or slightly bigger than the major diameter of the thread.
