New to the Forum. I just picked up a 2006 Motofino MF50 QT-6. I've worked on small engines my whole life. First foray into the Chinese scooter world. The good news, it has one mile on it. The bad news, the ladies husband passed away and she left it outside for years. No keys or paperwork. The guy I got it from ( butcher ) started to work on it. He took the ignition switch out and lost it.
I was able to jump the plug and the horn and signals work. The starter does not operate from the switch but works when I apply 12V directly. Also, I am not getting any spark. I have a feeling that something is killing the bike but I am not familiar with any kind of off switch.
Open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance

Did you only jump 2 terminals from the ign? If you jumped more than that, you could be grounding the kill circuit and stopping it from making a spark.

There are 4 wires at the plug. Red,green, black and black with white stripe. Right now I have red and solid black jumped. Only the horn and signals are operating. From what I can gather the black with white is the kill and the green is the lights.
Theoretically, it should be operational but I must be missing something.

Don’t forget to squeeze brake lever to use electric start

Well don't I feel stupid. Had to give them a bunch of squeezes from sitting but low and behold the starter works from the switch when you squeeze the brake levers. Oh, how I long for the days before regulation.
Thanks for that info scooterpimp.
On to the next issue. Looks like still no spark.
Any ideas? It looks like there is a kill switch with 3 positions but no spark on any of them.

You can check for continuity with ground on the kill wire of the CDI. If there is ground present there, it won't spark. A switch is not right or something has shorted. If no ground, move on to ign components.

Rustypop is right about the 'kickstand' having a switch on some models. I cranked for a few minutes with no result until I noted the stand was extended. Pushed it back into place, and it started right up. Some scooters have DC CDI units that need 12VDC to operate. Others have CDIs that are operated by voltage developed by the stator & flywheel rotation. Be sure your battery has 12V is you have a DC operated CDI. I think the green wire is ground, connected to the kill wire when the ignition switch is turned to OFF. The 12V from the battery is supplied to consumers when the key is in the ON position. Search here onsite for some generic wiring diagrams. They will show the ignition switch having two sets of contacts, opening and closing when operated. Opening the KILL ground connection, closing the 12V and accessory connection. tom
