So the basic question is simple I guess but I'm including background just in case maybe it's relevant!! Here's the basic issue: I have a TaoTao atm50-a with a big bore kit. I changed the fuel filter yesterday and while I was trying to start it and get fuel down into the carb...the scooter wouldn't turn off. Well I say turn off, it never did actually turn over and start. I was using the electric start and it just kept going. Kill switch wouldn't stop it, turned the key off, nothing. The only way I got it to stop was by removing the negative wire from the battery. Now I've searched this issue but one difference that seems to be common between mine and what I found is that the kickstand was down the whole time. When I touch that wire back to the battery it starts up again. I've traced the wires and can't find any issues. I also put a new CDI in that I had extra just in case.
The background. So about two years ago I put the bbk in it. Ran fine until, as I recently discovered, the bolt that held the starter wire on came off. I was so irritated with it because of everything I'd been doing that I put it in the basement and said screw it. About a month ago we decided to bring it out and fix it. Since it had been sitting for so long I cleaned the fuel tank, replaced the petcock, took apart the carb and cleaned everything. Took it apart all the way down to the piston to make sure everything was good. We also removed all the body panels, sanded and painted them and put on underglow lights! Apparently my boyfriend, who will be riding it, noticed there was a problem with the headlight not coming on with the switch and the brake light stayed on. He did something and tied the headlight in to come on with the key and I guess fixed/rigged the brake light because I know I didn't get a new switch for it. That was about 3 weeks ago. Something I also noticed was that apparently when I had taken it to a shop before it stopped working and was stored, they removed the pair system and put a hose with a screw in it on the second nipple coming from the intake manifold.
This may really be important to know: yesterday before all this started with it not turning off we took the engine apart again to check the timing and also to adjust the valve clearance. He also took off the cover where the kick start is to check everything there and paint it. Put it all back together. Immediately before this happened he was trying to start it with the electric starter and he said it kinda sounded like something we grinding inside the crankcase.
Sorry this is so long but I didn't want to leave anything out just in case any of that was important. The carb is upgraded to a pd18 with the two nipples at the bottom. Performance air filter, no air box. New spark plug. What could possibly be doing this and where should I go from here???
Thanks!!
