So I ordered a new scooter. 50cc. I was trying to start it but it won't. I found out it was leaking so I went and discovered the source. There are these two lines that look to be connected to the gas. one runs to the engine while the other is connected to nothing. I connected the disconnected one to what looks like a fuel filter which goes the engine as well. I'm confuse.

I'm guessing you have a vacuum petcock. On-tank versions usually have 2 connections. One goes to the carburetor to supply it with fuel. That would typically have a fuel filter in line. The other goes to a vacuum source; most commonly to a nipple on the intake. Pics or video of what you're seeing may be helpful. Would be great to show the intake and carb as well.

If you have the two-line system mounted to the bottom of the fuel tank you will find a vacuum operated petcock. The 'stand alone' vacuum petcocks have 3 lines: fuel in, fuel out, and vacuum. Either way, one line that carries the fuel, should connect to a fitting on the left side of the carburetor, left as viewed sitting on the seat. There will also be a vent tube, a rubber shaped into a "L", with one end connected to the carburetor and the other end 'hanging down' towards the ground, not connected to anything. The other line will go the intake as mentioned above, on the black plastic elbow fitting leading down from the front side of the carburetor into the cylinder head. When the engine starts & runs, vacuum is formed by the piston activity, and that vacuum is routed to one side of a diaphragm. The diaphragm is pulled towards the vacuum compressing a spring, and opens the fuel valve to allow fuel to flow into the carburetor float bowl. When the engine stops, vacuum disappears, and the spring expands, pushing the diaphragm to close the valve, stopping fuel flow. When you first start, the float bowl is likely empty. You can assist in filling the float bowl by sucking on the vacuum line to open the valve, and then re-connecting the line to the intake. tom
