I’m unsure where to even begin with my issues, as they seem to change each time I try to figure out what is causing them. My TGB r50x only starts on starting fluid, it was like this when I got it. It has 12000 miles on it, and I first really need someone to tell me where the oil drain plug is, I cannot find it anywhere, and based off the color of the gear oil, it really needs a change. I removed the carb a total of 3 times now to clean it, each time there has been some weird substance that can only be described as a gel in the bottom of the float bowl whenever I clean it, it keeps coming back within days of cleaning. Also, each time I clean it, I completely drain the fuel tank, and put fresh gas in it. And each time I reassemble it, it’s the same thing: once fuel gets to the carb, as long as I am holding the starter, it sputters like it will run for the first ten seconds of fresh fuel going to the carb, then won’t start again. I’ve tried choking it out by hand, using sea foam, getting gas from a different station, but nothing has worked. It still only starts on starting fluid. The only thing that might be causing it is the vacuum petcock, but I thought it wasn’t, since the fuel DOES flow, the reason I suspect the petcock is that even when i know the float bowl is full, I still see the filter getting constant fuel flow, as if it’s overfilling the carb with fuel. When I choke it by hand this is further confirmed by a flood of fuel immeadiately soaking my hand from the intake, but it only leaks out the intake when I choke it out. I’m really stumped on this one. It could also be the electronic choke, and I’ve ordered a new carburetor, but I won’t know for sure till it arrives (it’ll take a while, I bought a Chinese cheapo carb for just till I confirm it fixes, or at least changes, the symptoms). Any advice would be appreciated. Especially regarding the oil drain plug location

The oil drain plug is at the bottom of the gearbox and looks just like a nut it may be covered with road dirt.get your fuel tank cleaned and replace the petcock and fuel lines before you fit the new carb,if it runs you can rule out electrical isues ,so remove and check the reed valve(check the crankcase is clean and dry at this stage)fit new carb ,fit cleaned and sealed up air box,it should run now.watch the no start videos in that tech section while your waiting, keep us posted, don't, adjust the new carb until your absolutely sure it needs it.

If you mean the engine oil drain plug you don't have one, it's a 2T. I'm a plus one on what Geoff said, replace the fuel petcock with a manual valve and replace the lines, they are probably the source of your gunk. When you clean the carb give it an ultrasonic bath, it will be happier. Your cheap Chinese carb might give you problems as well so be prepared to go back to the original one.

Ok, I’ll try replacing the petcock with manual one. I don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner, but right now, my trunk has also decided to refuse to open. So I need to figure out how to fix that as well now. I’ll post an update once I replace the petcock... I would also need some plugs for the vacuum lines , right?

Yes you will need plugs and new fuel line to do it right. I bought an assortment from autozone they look like this. You can get them with more of them per size. Be sure to put a manual valve on the fuel line. These scooters also have problems with their cranks because of how they get oiled. There is a replacement intake to direct the oil onto the bearings. If the crank goes on them they tend to eat the stator.

I saw one on eBay a year ago but I can't find it now. I have bought some parts from www.tgbscooters.us before. Delivery can take a while. If you premix its not an issue. Yours may have the newer one on it. A picture would help.

Hey man sounds to me like your gonna hsve a lot of changes when the new carb comes in. Will probably solve most of your issues. Ive works on 100s of scooters and even thoigh u have cleaned your carb 3 times doesnt mean its working correctly. Id say just relax until you get the new one on and go from there. Only intake i could find for your bike is here www.scooterdynasty.com/intakemanifoldpolinifor50cc2-strokeacfrancomorinibasedscooters.aspx. but its an outrageous price. If you reallllly need to find one lmk and i can help. Very good at shopping bro. Good luck.

The old one was supposed to put the oil on the bearings but failed at its job. The new one has the single feed so it puts it on the crank. Here is a link to a technical bulletin that gives you a clue to the problems and fixes It says 2006 but the problems continued into 2007. It looks like your intake was fixed so you may not see any of these problems.

They are great scooters, 13" wheels, dual disk brakes and decent styling. They do have a morini engines and there are getting to be fewer and fewer go fast parts for them.
