Have anyone tried using homemade copper head gasket, is it a good idea?

Takes a good bit of work to fab one,it should run fine though..Why do you want to reinvent the wheel??

I will do everything to increase the compression of my engine and I can get a sheet of copper 0.10mm thick which I can use as a gasket, I noticed that copper is used on turbos and simillar high temp applications, and since I am increasing compresion there would be more heat + copper which I can get is very thin so it should help with increasing compression too

Soft aluminum makes a nice head gasket too(3003 or 5052),but the copper is stronger..If you could make a DXF file and get it laser cut,it would be nice and flat...Let us know how it works!

What engine?
If reducing the squish area. is the goal why not no head gasket?

Why not cut the head surface?Remember doing any of these mods will slacken the cam chain tension, retard the cam timing and make the valve to piston clearance closer...

If copper gasket turns out to be total failure I will probably mill the head as mentioned in this topic : 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/24085/head-gasketHmm, maybe a chain could be shortened by one link(I will have to try that on my scrap engine) one link is probably too much but it costs nothing to try

I have done copper for many years, cheap and easy. For high performance, I prefer an "O" ring head. My former Honda with 13:1 compression had a groove in the head and matching groove in the cylinder, with an aluminum ring that could be sized to any thickness. Never had a failure. (Except in machining, because I quite sucked in the early days) All in a days fun!
If you have the squish clearance, it is a nice way to go zero or near zero.

My copper sheet has just arrived, cant wait to make a gasket and test it
