I have a 2002 Yamaha Vino 50t with a LED headlight installed. The light seemed to burnout last year so I replaced in with a new LED light, dead. I check the power going to the light and found there was none. Any ideas on what would cause this? Where should I look? Thank you.

Check for power to the headlight switch. If not present there, see if you have AC power coming from the lighting wire of the stator with it unplugged. Should be 50VAC or more kicking or cranking the engine over from that wire. Not certain of the color, but in a diagram for an '03 it's yellow/red.

Here is a link to the manual for your scoot. The manual outlines some checks you can make if you have a multimeter. www.49ccscoot.com/manuals/Yamaha_Vino_50_YJ50RN_Service_Manual.pdfThe Vino headlight and tail light is powered directly from a coil in the stator, therefore the lights only come on when the scoot is running. If the tail light is working when the scooter is running, the stator should be ok. That leaves the wire from the stator to the switch, the switch itself, the wire from switch to headlight, the headlight socket and the headlight itself. The switch powers the high beam or the low beam, but not both at the same time. Could it be the LED is wired incorrectly? EDIT: I type much slower than @90gtvert LOL!

You said you put in an led bulb? Led bulbs won't work on AC circuits. You need a normal scooter bulb.

LED's do work on AC power. just not EVERY led works on AC power.

i'd check the stator voltage, and follow the wires from the stator to check for breaks if you have voltage at the stator and not at the light. Most leds are not compatible with AC power, so make sure the led bulb you used is not a dc bulb.

You said you put in an led bulb? Led bulbs won't work on AC circuits. You need a normal scooter bulb. I have LED headlights on 3 of my Hondas and I got a buddy with an 02 vino that has an LED headlight also. with ac voltage the strobe at lower engine speeds. I like it for street lights. the strobing at idle seems to trick them into changing faster when the weight sensors don't register my scooters. I have even used small t5 and t10 LEDs on my instrument panel lighting, which is also on the AC power circuit. when original poster says he checked voltage at the headlight plug, did you check it with your meter on DC or AC voltage? that could be your problem. DC setting wont read AC voltage or it will give you wonkey readings. check it on AC and see what you get. ive found with LEDs its the operating voltage of the bulbs that make the difference. a LED with a 10-14v range don't work as well or are not as bright as an LED with a 6-14v or an 8-24v range on an AC lighting circuit.
