Welcome to the 2019 edition of Scoot Tag from 49ccScoot.Com®!
Scoot Tag is pretty simple and it's and excuse to get out and ride. Read over the rules, grab your camera and get ready to rack up some miles and points. If you do well, you may even become the 49ccScoot.Com® 2019 Scoot Tag Champion and win a trophy!
How Scoot Tag Is Played
It starts with someone posting a picture of their scoot with an object or landmark of some sort and specifying what it is that they want the next person to get a picture with. For the very first tag of the year, I will leave it open to the first person that makes a post here with a picture of their scoot and something to be found by the next participant.
Someone then gets a picture of their scoot with whatever the last poster specified, as well as a pic with a new object or landmark to keep the game rolling. For example, if someone posts their scoot with an American flag as the new tag, then you should go get a picture of your scoot and an American flag. While you're out getting the current tag, get a pic for a new tag as well.
Post the response pic to the previous pic and then post the new thing that you want people to find.
There should be a scooter in the picture (don't cheat with your car or load the scooter in a truck/trailer). Include as much of the scooter as you can, or at least enough that it's obvious that it is a scooter and it's not being towed around.
Everyone that completes a tag by getting a picture specified by the previous tagger and then provides a pic with a new place/thing for the next tag will receive 1 point.
If the person that posted the last tag does not think that your tag complies with what they asked for, they may decide not to accept your tag. At that point, their tag is still active and people should continue looking for it instead of what you have posted if you included a new tag and you should deduct the point if you updated your score for that tag. We should be a little lenient on tags, but tags should comply with what is asked. 90GTVert will have the ultimate authority to make a decision if there is an issue.
You cannot complete your own tag. Someone else needs to get the tag that you post.
You may notice some people will call a tag, saying "I'll get it after work" for example. This is fine to do, but it does not stop the progress of the game or give that person the exclusive right to get a tag. This is first come first served, meaning whoever posts the tag first along with a new tag gets the point. This keeps the game moving. Calling a tag is mostly useful when there's a difficult tag to let others know that you will be able to get it soon and it doesn't need to be modified.
Scooters large and small are allowed to play, as well as mopeds, motorcycles and motorized bicycles (gas or electric).
Please try to get tags that everyone would have access to so everyone can play. This won't rule out much. For example, don't take your motorcycle and get a tag that would require someone to get on a highway, because in many areas 49cc scooters can't get onto a highway. While other vehicles are permitted, this is primarily a game about scooters and must remain scoot friendly. Also avoid very specific tags that may not be available to anyone else playing. An example would be your scooter and a Welcome to Kansas City sign. A more appropriate tag would be your scooter and a sign welcoming you to a town or city.
If tags are up for more than 48 hours without a response and the game has been active, the poster should make the tag easier. For example; if the original tag was "your scoot at a McDonalds" and no one found one, the tag should be modified to something more broad like "your scoot at a fast food restaurant" or "your scoot anywhere that serves burgers". This prevents tough tags from bringing the game to a halt. If the game is moving very quickly, the poster may want to modify the tag sooner than 48 hours and that is acceptable.
Try to make sure tags can be done safely. For example, don't ask for a tag of your scoot parked in the middle of a busy street because it would be dangerous.
Try not to repeat tags often. For example, if "your scoot with a post office" was used last week and completed, don't do that again right away. Tags will be repeated though and it is acceptable to repeat because there are only so many ideas that most can get and it's a year long game.
Bonus Points And Special Tags
There are opportunities to collect bonus points, which are used as tiebreakers. Bonus points do not count toward the point total for tags. For example; if two players end the year with 100 points, but one has 1 bonus point and the other has none, then the player with the bonus point will be the champion. Bonus points aren't just about breaking ties, but also another great excuse to go exploring on your scooter.
Pictures with a found hubcap count as 1 bonus/tiebreaker point, but they must include your scoot just like tags. Hubcaps on vehicles do not count. They should be stray hubcaps, found on the road etc... 1 pic per hubcap or hubcaps, meaning if you take 4 pics with the same hubcap you don't get 4 points. DO NOT DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL OR REMOVE HUBCAPS FROM VEHICLES. Hubcap points are only used for tie breaking and for bragging rights and are tallied separately from the tag score.
I, 90GTVert, may randomly create Special Tags throughout the course of the game when I participate. These special tags may be worth up to 5 points total. These are not bonus points for tiebreakers like hubcaps. These tags will be worth additional score points. These can give you the opportunity to get in the running for the lead or to secure your lead, so be on the lookout for Special Tags throughout the year. Formats may change for Special Tags, so be sure to read any included instructions. I may do 1 in a year and I may do 100. I don't have a set plan and wish to keep it 100% random, so even I don't know when they're coming till I come up with a tag and post. ONLY 90GTVert CAN CREATE SPECIAL TAGS.
Additional Rules And Info
There will be a scoreboard below each post and that should be copied and pasted into your tag. Update your point total by adding 1 for the tag that you just completed so score keeping is simple. Please be careful to update the score accurately and not to alter other scores as you update yours. Scores should be formatted as shown below. It's a very simple format that requires little effort to update or understand, so please stick with it.
username : points (hubcap total)
Example : 90GTVert : 42 (1)
90GTVert will participate in the game at times, but is not eligible to win.
Please ride safe. Always pay attention to the road and your surroundings.
Remember that this is about having fun and enjoying our two-wheeled hobby/obsession.
That's about it. If you have any other questions, just ask. Rules are subject to change at any time. Additional decisions will be made by 90GTVert .
Rounds of Scoot Tag will go for one year. So 2019 will be one round and then in 2020 points will be reset. Last post of the year must be made by 11:59PM December 31st (Eastern US time zone). A winner will be announced after that date and they should get in contact with me with a shipping address to receive the trophy. The next year's game begins once I post a new thread for that year.
The trophy is nothing fancy or expensive, but everyone will know you're a badass when they see it. Play each year and see if you can create a collection!
If you've made it this far, thanks very much for reading the rules. Now, go grab some tags!
