Is it ok to use RTV instead of a base gasket as long as the squish clearance is kept? I'm working on a 1e41qmb geeley motor. Had low compression 90psi and found that carbon had the rings stuck in tight.

Yes you can that is a cheap mod wont have a noticeable effect on port timing . When you finished spin the motor over make sure your not hitting the plug or head be for you fire it up .

Will that disassemble easily?

I'd use Indian Head or something similar over RTV.

That depends on what product you use . I only have experience with 3M 08672 or threebond 1184 or 1211 the clean up is not that bad the 3M seals better in my opinion even with a marginal surface like a super thin sealing area .. But the threebond is my next choice most times

I have just used copper spray to seal it and it worked fine.

I wouldn't use any old silicone, you need 3M or Yamabond. I presume Indians Head is shellac, and I've had to use that on a big bore 2 stroke that kept loosening the base flange. Nasty messy stuff, but it's not going to leak or loosen, ever.

I've used Permatex Ultra Grey and Threebond 1184 without base gaskets many times. Both have worked fine for sealing case halves so I've never worried about them in the base area. Permatex Moto Seal is another I'd consider. I use copper spray on heads regularly, but have never used it on the base without a gasket.

As I read this I realized it was heads I used the copper spray on. Only gaskets on bases. Thank you for your comment Brent I would have filed away that I had done that before and it worked.
