Greetings – bought a Tecnigas NEXT R for my Vento from the rabbit. (Scooter Tuning special 25% off) It just arrived and it appears to have a clear coat or varnish. QUESTION: how long will it keep this new appearance?

Long, as long as you keep it clean, dry and far away from salt. When you've ridden it in the wet or snow, wipe it down with a rag. A coat of WD40 afterwards is very helpful. Spray it on a rag and wipe it down to finish it.

Some pipes rust quicker than others. My next R, and Yasuni started to go rusty in less than a week! Living by the sea in a wet environment, getting used daily takes its toll. Some pipes the clear lacquer is only there to stop the pipe going rusty till it's used. It burns of very quickly. Where I used to live the Yasuni C16 lasted well. For about 6 months till I got bored of costing it with WD40 after ever ride.

WD40 will be your friend. The clear may discolor some from heat but lubing it up from time to time will keep it rust free.

The Rabbit has a new product, MOST g-101,Exhaust Protection Oil (made in France by Tridan) that is made with Teflon. Can’t find anything on it IE how to use but listing says it penetrates metal and protects from oxidation.

Just use wd40, no need for those fancy exhaust-name-brand-snake-oil-kinda products.

I just hit mine with black header paint whenever I think about it. If I'm really thinking I use white at the cylinder so I can spot exhaust leaks easier.

WD-40 and if it has a little surface rust use a scotch pad or fine steel wool with WD40 it will bring it back nto new. and you don't need to do it every ride. just once a week or month, when cleaning the rest of scooter. another option woulsd be ceramic coating the pipe. but that could get expensive. theres a chrome like finish that looks really nice. ive done boat headers, car headers, Harley pipes, and dirt bike pipes. lasts a good amount of time, does beed periodic cleanings and will stain if ran with fluids like oil gets on them though. I have never heard of anyone using floor wax... im interested though. maybe next time ill try it out. would maybe be a more permanent coating the wd40. wd40 does burn off. the closer to the cylinder the faster it "dries" out.

MOST g-101 is a hydrophobic formula designed to solve the problems of corrosion and rust on exhaust parts. A water repellent spray containing PTFE aka Teflon® that acts as a second skin to inhibit oxidation. Manufacturer says, as the exhaust heats, g-101 enters steel up to 3 microns providing long lasting protection. Sold in 120 ml bottle. Made in France by TRIDAN Shake well before using Clean the exhaust Apply with a dry rag allowing to stand 10 minutes and wipe clean Use gloves, keep away from skin. If ingested, do not induce vomiting, seek medical assistance.

The ultimate coating for the exhaust is ceramic coating. Once applied, unless it is scratched off, it is impervious. While I am new here, I have been riding, building and tuning motorcycles for nearly 50 years.
Nearly any shop that does powder coat can also cerakote a pipe. I usually costs about $75.00. I first tried it when racing a turbo drag bike. The manifold would rust. After coating, it never rusted again, and it would glow orange hot after a pass. When it cooled off, still shiny!

I'm in the process of a Minarelli swap into ruck clone chassis. I'm sending the pipe and handle bars out for cerakote. Coating the bars will make them rust proof, and the coating is microns thin so it will not cause a problem fitting the throttle tube and switchgear.

I do agree FAST1075 ! I took my old pipe to work today and played around with the die grinder + Scotch Brite wheel. Lavished the clean metal with g-101 oil. The NEW Tecnigas is ready for pick-up at INDY POWDER COATING $60- for ceramic coating. I plan to up-date this post in 6 months.
