so i bought this used for $100 and its been sitting storage for about 6 years, they just wanted it gone, its a 2009 Sage retro 50cc with 400kms on it..
The battery was still connected so i tried to revive it and it was dead, replaced, lights and guages work, but would not turn over...
check that fuel was being pumped, it was.. replaced old fuel, bleed the lines after replacing fuel.. Drain carb bowl, no ignition..
pulled out the spak plug tested it, it fires with the starter...
Not sure what else can cause this.. any ideas where to start looking now?

Remove the cover to the air filter and try spraying starter fluid or a shot of fuel and try starting.

That's not going to help seeing its a 2 stroke. There are no valves.

"That's not going to help seeing its a 2 stroke. There are no valves." My error . . I stand corrected. And to confirm . . per Bel Ray, Saga DID have a 2009 2-stroke 50cc.

You came to the right place. Did you clean the carb, I mean really clean it, jets and passages? Here is a good thread in the directory that will help you with that: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/363. Also try what GSX600 said and squirt a little starter fluid in the intake and see if that does it. Do these things and get back to us.

ok i bought some carb cleaner and im going to clean the FKKK out of it.. Also i noticed a sticky residue in the actual air filter.. As for valves... thats out of my scope.. i dont think i wanna take on that..ill report back.
ill also check out that thread mentioned, my friend thinks its fuel distrobution..ill even try soaking the carb in cleaner too.

ok, so cleaned it out, without taking it apart ( i dont have spare gaskets or a proper workbench.. put it back on the bike, at 1st turn it ran , well fired i should say, so took off the intake and sprayed cleaner in it.. it would fire but it wouldnt burn gas.. only would fire if i added carb cleaner to it. So im guessing the carb is not working as it should.
It does prime with fuel so i know the filter is not clogged, They are $30 on amazon, so i would much rather buy a new one than take this appart, Its def not worth my time and stress. Although the learning process would be fun. Maybe if i had a hand i would like it but for now,
when i google saga 50cc manual this comes up
50cc-150cc GY6 Engine Service Manual
so does this mean any GY6 carb will work in my 50cc scooter? some are listed at 150cc etc.. i would imagine they are calibrated differently?
anyway guys you have been super helpful and i love all the feedback. thanks again

The larger carb would probably work, but I would not recommend using it. Putting a larger carb on a stock setup will not give you any gains.
You either need to open up your old carb and give it a good cleaning or buy the correct size replacement carb.
Plus there is more to cleaning a carb than just spraying it with cleaner.

Please clarify . . did you replace a 2-stroke engine carb with a 50cc GY6 4-stroke carb?

Please clarify . . did you replace a 2-stroke engine carb with a 50cc GY6 4-stroke carb? I had a 4 stroke carb and i replaced it with the gy6 4 stroke carb. I think they were both from the same manufacturer, (the black part of the carb, said Made in Japan)

"had a 4 stroke carb and i replaced it with the gy6 4 stroke carb"
So your 2009 Sage retro 50cc ACTUALLY has a 139QMB 4-stroke engine?

This sporty little one seater scooter is designed with a classic motif yet has no problem keeping up with todays traffic. A 50cc motor propels this 4 stroke motor up to 70kmh but still gets a stunning 100 mpg. It is a quick and nimble bike for those that need to commute and don't want the extra size of our other models.
