Help needed. my son has a CPI Aragon GP 50cc which had blown all the bulbs when we bought it, and was reading 14-40 vac when tested and revved. i changed the voltage regulator expecting this to sort it, but the same voltage readings are showing. Changed it again and also the resistor which was showing no resistance. But still getting high voltages and the new resistor got really hot so probably burnt out too again. any advice would be great specifically voltage reading I should expect to get from the stator.

Your symptoms sure sound like a bad RR. But you adopted a problem from someone else, always a factor. Could it have a wrong RR? These things regulate by sinking the excess electricity to ground. So a very solid connection to ground is critical, not just at the mounting point, but the whole grounding system: stator (if needed), RR, battery. RR's also need to be able to shed off the heat generated, both through the cooling fins and through the mounting connection. I suggest checking the grounds. Some RR's have a ground wire, some ground through its case, some ground both ways.

Did you check the green wire that's part of the 4 wire plug that goes to the regulator ? The regulator need to be grounded to "shunt" excessive voltage to ground. I would check continuity from the green wire that's in the plug to the frame of the scooter.
