I own a 2004 Yamaha Neos 50cc 2 stroke, i t's the Minarelli horizontal type now at the moment it restricted (30 MPH MAX) so that's my first port of call. I've bought a Technigas Next R exhaust and 68mm main jet for the carb and 1000 RPM Contra spring. Once the warmer weather arrives I'll de-restrict but i'd like to know what can be done to squeeze more MPH from the engine. I understand that it depends on how deep your pockets are , i'd like to just know what can be achieved with both modifying the original parts (as again i know some 'performance' parts make little difference) and fitting aftermarket stuff. I've seen videos about faster pull away but i'm happy with a slower set off but higher top end. My ideas so far (please tell me if i'm wrong) are modified variator pulleys (to make the belt ride higher) lightened clutch bell, lightnened clutch (drilling holes in the shoes) ANY information is greatly received. Thanks,Jason.

You can port the stock cylinder. Raise and widen exhaust port. Put a thicker base gasket on and have a friend mill a mm from the head to raise compression. Advance ignition timing a few degrees by slotting and turn the stator counter clockwise. Buy a 2nd hand 19mm dellorto phbg and remove the snorkel from the airbox. Buy a polini speecontrol variator and a straight splined torquedriver pulley half. Put a new belt on, new roller weights and check seals for leaks. Put a br8hs plug in.
These are some basics you can do with a minimal budget. Look up the tech secton for detailed instructions and keep asking questions if you get stuck.

Jason,I see your here already ,slow right down on the mods a golden rule here is change one thing at once test take notes when that's tried move on to the next item.Ex factory restrictions are as follows A 5mm steel ring between the variator plates, just remove it. A ring in the exhaust right at the cyl head A small snorkel on the air filter box try with it removed Common mistakes, removing the 1mm washer from behind the outer variator plate, fitting a "racing" cdi,and using too light rollers, fitting a cone air filter, and lastly not using an OE spec belt. Hi guys, thanks for the replies I'll take on board your advice. The thing is that looking on line at various locations and looking at You Tube you got bombarded with different information about what's best. In the end it's just a muddle so hence the questions. I'll take on board the advice, the snorkel will go along with the other basic stuff and then I'll go from there. Thanks.
